About Babs
This loveable senior mumma needs a break. Babs has had an incredibly difficult life and deserves to finally live in comfort, without the burden of having to fend for herself and her kittens.
We're not going to sugar-coat it, Babs is a bit rough around the edges, but inside she is a big softie! We are not sure exactly how old Babs is, but we think she probably appears older than she is given how much she has been through.
Babs might look a little grizzly, but let us assure you that she is absolutely adorable inside and out.
We don't know her whole story, but we know that she spent many years on the streets, and was likely born there herself. Like all intact female street cats, she was forced to have litter after litter after litter of kittens, which left her poor little body depleted and a bit worse for wear. When she came into care, she had several old battle scars and only a few teeth. (She is now toothless and free from her chronic dental pain- yay!)
Luckily during her last pregnancy, a group of people made sure she was well fed until Sugar and Spice was able to trap her and take her in. She was very heavily pregnant when we finally got her into care, and she soon had six beautiful kittens who have since been adopted.
Babs has settled into life indoors incredibly well and she now understands that people can be kind (and bring food!). She will even rub against their legs when she is feeling particularly affectionate.
This week (19 Feb) we had a HUGE breakthrough--we were giving Babs some nice head pats and ear scratches and she began purring for the first time ever in our care!! Our hearts almost exploded with happiness. *THESE* are the milestones that we live for, and it's impossible to describe the joy that they bring. You, too, can experience these moments if you give a shy kitty like Babs a chance.
Babs will thrive in a quiet home with a loving foster (or forever) person/family who can continue to build her confidence by simply being there. She is an extremely low maintenance cat. She is quiet, tidy, and just wants to enjoy some much needed self-care.
Like many of us, Babs is tired and just needs a break.
Please consider opening your home and heart to her so that she can continue to settle into a safe and carefree life.
Babs has not been tested with other cats, dogs, or children. She tends to keep to herself and prefers her personal space, so she would probably be amenable to any of these with proper boundaries and a slow introduction. She is FIV negative.
Medical notes
Babs has now had all of her teeth removed. She is free from dental pain and loving life as a toothless retiree. :)
Adoption details
If interested in a cat that is available for adoption, we require you to fill out an adoption application, and one of our lovely foster carers will give you a call to organise a time for a meet and greet.
Please note: As we are all volunteers with limited time up our sleeves, we prefer all interested potential adopters to fill out an application, rather than send an enquiry, as this helps us know more about you and what you are after, and saves us all a lot of time!
Apply here for Babs: https://form.jotform.com/sugarandspicecatrescue/cat-adoption-questionnaire
If forms aren't for you though, please SMS us (the number is in the link) and we can call to go through the form over the phone.
