Meet Lonnie. A very special soul looking for a very special home.
Lonnie entered the rescue along with his siblings from a backyard breeding situation. Spending the first 12 months of his life in a yard, minimal socialisation with humans and none with the outside world, Lonnie arrived a very terrified doggo.
In foster care Lonnie’s been learning humans are fun and loving and what being part of a family is like. He’s toilet trained and sleeps happily in his crate through the night. When he’s bonded with you and forgets his fear of humans, he’s a big, bouncing, goofy ball of derp. When comfortable, Lonnie is incredibly affectionate. He jumps on you with kisses and tail wags in the morning and skootches into your lap when he wants a cuddle.
The reality of living with Lonnie is he is still a huge work in progress. Somedays no matter how much he’s bonded to you he’s skittish and hides. Whenever new people come into the home he retreats to his safe space and hides until they’ve left. Walks and outside of the home are a long way off for him as again, when he sees or hears people he goes into full flight mode.
Lonnie’s non negotiable’s - Please only apply if you meet these criteria:
- A resident dog or 2 on the property. He loves other dogs and thrives in their company more than with humans.
- Experience with/knowledge of working with timid dogs.
- A calm household (any children teenage and above).
- Time and patience. Lonnie will not be a quick fix.
- Someone who is home more often than not. He needs someone with time to bond with, long days at home without humans will not support this.
- Commitment to a regular grooming schedule.
- A large yard (no apartments, small courtyards). He loves being outdoors and this will become his safe space to build his confidence and play.
