On Hold
About Joe - 3 Month Old Kelpie X Border Collie (Trial)
This guy is the best! Adorable and affectionate bundle of energy and sass.
He’s a little timid and unsure with both new people and dogs initially, but he quickly warms when assessed as friendly.
A typical 3-month puppy – he chews anything he can get in his mouth and loves to play. He is a little mouthy and jumpy, so he won’t be suitable for young children. He is a very quick learner – his sit, drop and come are almost perfect. He will need more lead training and general obedience, but he will do very well with clear, consistent commands.
He loves to play with other dogs he’s familiar with but he can be unrelenting (typical pup!), so he’ll need a buddy who is very tolerate and likes to play - but will calmly let him know when it’s time for a rest. As a juvenile with lots to learn, it will be best for Joe to have a well-trained four-legged role model.
Joe started life as an outside dog. He is progressing very well with his toilet training but may still have a little bit to go. He currently sleeps through the night without a peep on a bed beside his humans.
His favourite thing is evening cuddles with his humans on the lounge. He can’t get close enough! He has so much love to offer and will take as much smooching as you can give.
He clearly understands the word “no” when he’s doing something he shouldn’t. Using a doggy door on the other side of the house demonstrates he is a clever little guy.
This is the prime age to direct him into good behaviour and basic manners and continue to give him time and guide him in the right direction as he matures.
Since being in care, Joe has barely been left unattended, so he hasn’t been tested for long periods on his own. He seems to thrive with human and doggy company. He has not been tested with cats, birds or other pets.
We think Joe will be best placed in a calm house, but with very active humans. His ideal home would be:
- where humans are home more often than not and have time to commit to his training and provide lots of love and attention.
- with the company at least one other friendly, playful, and non-aggressive dog so he’s never alone.
- a home that is stable and permanent.
- a home with no small children.
- where he gets two decent exercise session per day, plus regular doggy play time to continue his social development.
- a yard big enough to do a good lap that is 100% escape-proof for a potential jumper and digger.
IMPORTANT: Typical of a Kelpie, he will grow to be an extremely active dog requiring lots of exercise. This will be a strong consideration to his ideal forever home.
Joe is in foster care in Mayfield, NSW. Since he is not yet desexed, he is only available for adoption to the Lower Hunter region (Newcastle, Lake Macquarie, Port Stephens, Maitland and Cessnock) plus Central Coast and Sydney. He'll need to be returned to one of our approved vets for desexing when he's 5 to 6 months old.
Joe’s adoption fee is $700, which includes his desexing when he is old enough. He is vaccinated, treated for fleas and worms and microchipped.
You can contact Joe’s foster carer via email at ozredheads@gmail.com if you have any questions, but please be aware that you will not be considered without submitting an application (see link below).
If you are interested in adopting, please fill out the adoption application form here https://tinyurl.com/drnadopt and include the name of the dog you wish to apply for.
Please do NOT just list the reference number or the microchip number as this will delay your application reaching the correct foster carer.
