About Jimmy
Jimmy is a lovely chocolate and tan Dachshund only two years old. He is intelligent and active. He has lots of energy and character!
He loves his humans and is happy to be with them, on the couch or helping in the garden. He sleeps in his crate at night and loves to be covered up with his blanket. He is house trained and uses a doggy door.
Jimmy loves to play ball and brings it back to be thrown again, and again, and again, and again... He loves to chew his toys, eats well and is not fussy.
Things that need work: Jimmy gets over-stimulated when he sees other dogs. We think possibly a result of not being socialised as a puppy. We are working on the dog reactivity on our walks by slowing him down and changing direction repeatedly until he calms down. He is slowly improving.
He tends to bark if anything different is happening; that's most likely a Dachshund thing.
He will not be good with cats or small pets but after careful introduction a sensible dog may be good company for him. He is living with a 3.5kg cavalier cross girl and after an initial scuffle, (he thought she was a cat?) he is now absolutely fine with her.
He stays in a large pen when we are not home (we are retired so that's not very often) because we think he may bark and chew things if given the run of the house and yard when he is home alone. He seems quite happy with this.
Jimmy is a typical lovable cheeky Dachshund. So we are looking for a new home for Jimmy where his people have experience with the Dachshund personality and/or with training dogs generally.
Jimmy needs a home where his people are home a lot, retired or work from home. He won't cope with being home alone for a working day.
Please send your expression of interest to Dallas via email.
