About Lou
Can you open your heart and home to a very special dog?
Lou is looking for an owner he can be loyal to for the rest of his life and who will him the love and care that he deserves. This darling boy came to us after he was surrendered to a rural pound in far western NSW with some other unwanted working dogs. We quickly discovered what a treasure he is. Dogs don’t come more loyal and loving than Lou. He has bonded with his foster carers, particular the man of the household, and would do anything for them. He is so easy to have around the home and everyone that has met this boy just adores him.
It appears that Lou has previously worked so much for his previous owner that he worked his body into the ground. He is 7 years old now and has osteoarthritis throughout his joints. When he came into care, he was so crippled by arthritis that we didn’t think he had enough quality of life to be rehomed, but incredibly we have managed to get Lou to a point where his pain levels are now under control, and he is able to enjoy his life again - he now even does zoomies around the house! While Lou’s blood test results were fantastic for his age, he does have what the vets suspect is solar changes to his nose. We opted not to anaesthetise him to biopsy his nose to get a definitive answer, so essentially, he just needs a home who will apply suncream when out in the sun. His new owners will be the kind and compassionate type who understand Lou is a senior and can provide him with as much love and comfort during the remainder of his life. His current medical management will need to continue throughout his life and includes daily supplements (currently on 2 x Antinol Rapid a day), paracetamol or meloxicam as needed, and monthly Synovan and Beransa injections. Lou is happy again and getting around well. He is able to do stairs and hop on and off the couch without an issue for snuggle time.
Each day Lou loves to go out for 2 shorter strolls. He loves to smell everything along the way, and it is beautiful to see the enjoyment he gets from his outings. Back at home, Lou is very settled and easy going. He has his favourite spots to chill out or will happily follow his foster carers around. If you are looking for some company while you work from home or potter around the garden, he will happily oblige. When guests come over, he will hang around to say hi and get some pats then take himself off to one of his favourite spots for a nap. Lou’s foster carers say he is the easiest foster dog they have ever had and his easy going, grateful nature will make even the hardest of hearts fall deeply for this boy.
Lou is toilet trained and travels well in the car. At night he sleeps on the floor next to his foster carer’s bed without a peep. When he wakes up in the morning, he is always thrilled to welcome the new day with a happy face and waggy tail. Lou comes over to say good morning to you, get a kiss on the head and rolls over for some morning belly rubs. It is just the best day to start the new day. Lou believes breakfast is the best meal of the day and runs around in excitement. He is definitely not a fussy eater this one and happily has his supplements/meds thrown in.
We are looking for a very loving home for dear Lou. Someone with a kind heart who will ensure that he gets the best of everything and the best care. He can be a bit scared of loud noises like lots of people at a party, thunder/fireworks but will simply seek your comfort or the safety of one of his favourite spots. Lou would do well in a quieter household where someone is home more often than not, although he just lies down and relaxes until you get home if you’re out. He will need a home with minimal stairs (he has no issues with them now, we are just planning for when he is less mobile) and people who can continue to support his osteoarthritis and protect his nose.
Lou is dog social and has met some other dogs while in care. He is able to live with another very quiet and calm dog who would not knock him around, but is also more than happy to be an only dog. Although Lou has been very well behaved with the dogs he has been around during his time in care, hanging out with other dogs is not a priority for Lou and due to his arthritis, he should not be expected to socialise regularly, and he definitely won’t want to hang around young and energetic dogs who may knock and hurt him. However, there would be no issue with him socialising with other calm easy-going dogs. He is not suited to dog park environments due to the unpredictable nature of other dogs who may inadvertently hurt him. Lou has met children and is fine with them, but again it is important that children are aware that he needs to be handled gently by them, so he is not hurt or spooked by the type of loud sudden movements more boisterous children may make.

Don't see a breed attached to one of our dogs? That's because we don't breed label dogs of unknown genetic history. We can't guess at breeds but that's okay, because we can tell you about the dog's individual personality, character, and behaviour.
