About Douglas
Finally, he is Adoption Ready
Introducing the new and much improved Douglas the Brave.
Followers of our page will have no trouble recognizing this gorgeous boy.
Douglas had the double misfortune of firstly being abandoned at a rural pound and then contracting deadly parvovirus whilst he was waiting there for rescue.
To say Douglas is a survivor is an understatement and we are so grateful to everyone who supported him and us in the battle to get him well and into our village.
And now it is time to find the happy ending he has fought so hard for – let's find him his family.
Douglas is about 11 months old and is a coonhound x
He currently weighs 20kg and still has some growing to do – so we estimate he will be a maybe medium / larger-sized dog.
Douglas is a friendly, playful and happy dog who has settled beautifully into care despite his history.
He likes nothing more than a loving cuddle, a belly rub and to lay beside you – he is a smooch of a boy.
He adores his toys and will happily entertain himself with them – but he prefers to play with a friend ( human or dog) - tug o war especially.
He’s happy to go into his crate at night and sleeps quietly through the night.
Douglas is smart and so keen to learn - he has learned to ‘Sit’ and ’Wait’ until you say ‘Free’ when having his meals.
On lead Dougie walks fairly well and doesn’t pull unless he sees another dog or a bird. You will need to ‘Treat’ him past these distractions while telling him, ‘Leave it!’.
Douglas is mostly toilet trained but has the odd accident and needs to be encouraged to go outside regularly – rest assured though he is getting there.
He is a bit of a silly barker at the gate when other dogs pass, but he is learning ‘Quiet’
You will need to store all food carefully as he will help himself to unattended plates of food….he’s a hungry boy and is not yet trained to leave ALL food alone!
A family where someone is at home mostly or where he has a calm doggy companion would suit him as he does get a little sad and cries when left alone – he is getting better at believing you will come back.
Once awake Douglas is a ‘Velcro’ dog and follows you around to flop on the floor wherever you are.
He’s a beautiful intelligent boy and will be a wonderful family member for someone willing to continue his training and show him he is loved and won’t be abandoned again.
Douglas is desexed, vaccinated, microchipped, heartworm tested, and up to date with his flea/ tick and worm treatments.
He is in foster care at Minyama on the Sunshine Coast and his adoption fee is $595
If you think you may be a perfect match for Douglas, please send us a detailed message telling us all about yourself and the amazing life he could share with you.
We do only select best matches for meets so please don’t be afraid to sell yourself.
