Meet Vandelay. Our delicate little flower who has been trying her hardest to blossom.
Vandelay has been very scared over her time in foster care. She has adored her foster doggy and cat siblings, but has been terrified of the humans.
She may never be the dog you envision as your new family member. She may never allow you to pat her voluntarily, she may never snuggle with you and she may always be a bit wary of you and other humans. She of course may also blossom into a wonderful companion who does everything a typical dog would do, but her new owners need to recognise that she is a very scared little lady who requires a very specific owner with alot of time, patience, understanding and acceptance.
Her new owner will continue to build on the foundations that have been built in foster care. She may never be that typical puppy or dog we picture in our minds, but nurturing this little soul to her full potential will make your heart swell and make every moment worth it.
We are slowly making progress with some very specific training. But again, this will take time. Her new family will need to continue this training to make sure she becomes the dog she deserves to be.
Vandelay has been easy to walk. The walking will be the key to her training and to her trusting you as her leader and protector. It's very cute to watch her pick up her still attached lead and "walk" herself to her bed excitedly after her real walk.
You will celebrate every small win with Vandelay. We live for the moments when she falls asleep on the couch and her foot touches yours. Or when she runs towards you with no fear, only stumbling at the last moment when she remembers you're a human! Or the very big leaps of late when she allows you to give her a scratch under the chin or a rub on the head. Even watching her sun herself on the deck acting like a typical dog is so heart warming.
Vandelay loves her food. She will take a treat from your hand, follow you around for your lunch, help you chop veggies, or sit at your feet asking for your dinner!
She loves a rough and tumble with her foster dog siblings, and loves any type of toy to chew on and play with.
Her kind, patient and dedicated new owner will be rewarded with the small wins of this beautiful yet terrified little girl.
