About Ernie
Ernie is a handsome, clever, 9-year-old border collie x maremma. His black, white and tan coat is soft and shagedelic.
Ernie loves having it brushed and his foster mum found this a great way to build rapport with him when he first arrived. Ernie has shown himself to be dog friendly, cat curious (VERY), and tolerant of chooks! He enjoys his own space but as he gets more confident in a new environment he will seek out his human for some intense eye gazing and hand licking.
As well as being fully toilet trained, Ernie has good basic obedience. He can be strong on lead at times and we are working on improving his loose leash walking. This will require ongoing work, and Ernie will benefit from a continued focus on building connection and recall with his forever family.
Ernie can use a doggie door independently, and sleeps through the night on his bed inside. He waits for his meals calmly and eats with gusto. Ernie is currently on a weight loss journey, which is going well, and this should be continued, to ensure his health remains optimal.
There are many things that Ernie loves including: car rides; warm baths; sausages; hanging out in the garage, food puzzles and going out for adventures! He is observant, gentle and increasingly responsive as he gets to know his people.
Ernie would be best suited to a home where he has company for much of the day, with regular exercise and opportunities to explore the world. A friendly dog or two would be welcomed and a secure yard with high fencing will be important as he gets to know you.
Ernie hasn't lived with children before, so it would be best in a house of older teens and adults. Someone who has experience with working and guardian breeds and understands how to meet Ernie's mental and physical needs would make an ideal fur parent for this intelligent and lovely dog.
Ernie is located in VIC.

We will then request to complete a yard check, or for you to send in photos of your yard showing the fencing, space, shelter and any hazards etc, to confirm it is safe and secure, as well as adequate space for a working breed dog.
Following this, we will then put you in touch with the dog/s foster carer/s that you are interested in, to chat further over the phone, about whether the dog is a good fit for your family, and vice versa.
