About Hemingway
💙 Hemingway 💙
HOUSEHOLD- Meet Hemingway, affectionately known as Hemy. A nervous boy at heart this young man is seeking a family that will be patient and calm and allow him a chance to explore this big wide world when he is ready too. He can be easily overwhelmed and his first response is to run away.
Sadly, he will not suit a home with young children as he finds their erratic movements and noises scary and would prefer a quieter more mature household with all family members over 12yrs of age.
ON-GOING TRAINING- Hemy has displayed a high level of emotional and physical intelligence yet he has clearly had no time put into his training. The good news is that he is highly food motivated and with sit on command already mastered he will flourish being taught more skills.
ON LEAD- Hemy can walk well on lead but when he does feel uncomfortable he can become erratic and pull quite strong. He appreciates a gentle handler who can sit with him and help calm him during these times of fear and will improve greatly on lead once his confidence in the world improves as well.
PLAY/TOYS- Hemy can be quite playful and enjoys softer plush toys over balls. He will require daily play and involvement in games to help develop a good bond with his new family and help alleviate any stress he may feel.
OTHER DOGS- Hemy is quite social and while he doesn’t always want to interact with another dog he will do the polite thing and move away.
He is not yet ready for a dog beach/park lifestyle due to his other insecurities but may be more suitable once he has had time to settle into his new life. He is also possibly suitable to live with another canine companion and would just require a meet and greet prior to make sure that everyone gets along ok.
CATS/OTHER ANIMALS- Hemy found our cattery abit overwhelming, and while he did enter with minimal hesitation he quickly ran out after being hissed at. While he displayed no aggression back we would still be recommending he be not rehomed with cats or other small creatures due to the stress it may cause.
CAR RIDES- Hemy is yet to travel too far away from the shelter and we will update this as it happens.
CARE/GROOMING- Hemy has a short coat that will be easy to maintain with weekly brushing combined with monthly bathing/nail checks. He does require some confidence building in the grooming department and does not adore having a bath etc but will allow it all with minimal fidgeting.
EXERCISE/NUTRITION- Hemy is a high energy pup and would thrive on 1-2 walks daily combined with play in the backyard and inclusion in family social activities both indoors and out whenever possible.
Breed: DOB 22/10/22 American Staffy Cross.
Hemy is currently located at our Charmhaven Shelter and his $300 adoption fee covers: microchipping, desexing, lifetime registration, current vaccination, flea and worming treatments.
