Hi! This is Wolke,
If you are looking for a big fluffy polar bear shadow then this is the dog for you! He came into care extremely overweight with bad arthritis, with the help of the the wonderful foster carers at SODR he has lost heaps of weight and will need to continue his weight loss journey by staying on a strict diet.

Wolke is absolutely not your typical Maremma, he spends the bulk of his day laying around. He is happy to do this inside or outside but he does suffer from a bit of separation anxiety so if you are home, he wants to be close to you.
Whilst you are out, Wolke will patiently wait for you to return home and greet you with lots of love and butt wiggles!

In his previous foster home Wolke was in a fenced in yard and enjoyed sitting in the sun, at his current foster home the fence is barred so he can see outside. Whilst he does enjoy this, true to his breed his is very protective of his surroundings and family so does bark at people going past and he does not like the rubbish truck or the mailman!

Wolke has happily lived with a female kelpie before and is currently in foster care with a small male maltese x poodle whom he takes no notice of.

Wolke loves going for a walk but these are extremely short, once you are about ¾ of the way around the block he starts to struggle so max would be 5-10 mins.

Wolke walks extremely well on the lead, does not pull but loves to stop and smell everything!

Wolke is very aware of his condition and it makes him quite nervous walking on new surfaces/areas, he is not a fan of his bed or any kind of dog bed/sheets, his preference is to sleep on the floor next to the door.

Wolke does not seem to know many commands but due to his condition, it doesn’t cause any issues. He always wants to be near people so he comes when you call him, his legs are always sore so he sits down most of the time anyway.

Despite him laying around a lot, Wolke still has a personality, he won't go where he doesn’t want to and makes his voice known when people walk past.

IMPORTANT PLEASE READ:

Wolke has strict medication and diet requirements that will need to be continued in his forever home so that he can live his best life!

Wolke is not able to jump or walk up steps so he will need to be lifted into a car by 2 medium+ strength people using a dog sling.

Wolke currently has twice daily Carprofen tablets that he takes easily with a little bit of peanut butter after his breakfast and dinner.

He also has monthly Beransa injections, these help to keep his arthritis under control and keep Wolke living his best life.

PLEASE NOTE: SODR will continue to pay for Wolke’s tablets and injections for the rest of his life if you choose for them to.

Due to his condition Wolke will need a home with the following:

- Carpeted or concrete floors, no lino as he is not steady on his feet and slips over
- Someone who is around most of the time
- Preferably a home with indoor/outdoor access or a nice undercover area
- A home without stairs
- Someone who is committed to monthly vet visits
