Simba is a pretty easy little dog to have around. He is in foster care in a family with another dog and with young children. The children can play chasey, play games with him and carry him around gently with no worries. He is toilet trained although because he doesn't ask to go out himself his owners will need to take him out regularly to toilet outside. Simba loves to sit on your lap for a cuddle or while you watch TV, but prefers to sleep in his own space.
He will spend some time outdoors if he has another dog for company, before coming back indoors with his people. Much prefers to be left indoors if you go out rather than out, although this has improved so you can leave him outside for a couple of hours if necessary.
Simba loves a walk and does a little happy dance waiting for his lead to be put on. He loves the beach (although please see notes on his ears below) and to be taken out to a cafe; he is a great little travel buddy and is so easy care. He is quite an active little dog so would suit an active retiree/retirees or a family with someone home a lot, who can take for a good daily walk and maybe have a play with him in the yard too. He will bark if he feels you are not giving him enough exercise, so might be a good little fitness booster! If the walk ends up being a little too long, he will also happily ride along in the toddler's pram!
Simba gets on well with dogs but introductions will need to be made carefully because he will growl and bark if a new dog comes into his space and he's not sure of them or they don't listen to his go away bark. He has good recall and learns boundaries well. Please note that Maltese x Shih Tzu dogs need regular coat grooming and trims all year round to keep them happy and healthy.
Simba is a fantastic dog for someone looking for a small little guy to share their home with.
Please check Simba's medical notes below before applying.
MEDICAL NOTES
Adoption fee includes vet check, vaccination, microchip (including transfer of ownership fee), flea and worm treatment and sterilisation.
Simba had a terrible ear infection when he came into care. His ears were so badly affected/neglected, they will need ongoing care into the future. This will involve keeping his ears as dry as possible, and actively drying the ears if they get wet, as well as seeking vet treatment (a course of ear drops) if/when necessary. This cost will need to be factored in by Simba new owner.
ADOPTION NOTES
Our adoption process for the successful applicant includes a meet and greet, (including your own dog if applicable), a home check (or photos of your yard and fencing to be supplied to us if not local), and a two week trial period to ensure your chosen dog is the right fit for your home.
All adoption fees must be deposited into our SAFE Bunbury bank account in full before adoption trial starts (we cannot accept cash). The Adoption Agreement will be emailed to the selected applicant in advance of meeting your chosen dog.
After the adoption trial period has been completed we arrange transfer of ownership of the dog's microchip to the new owner, and email out the vet records.
