About Basil
***DECEMBER SPECIAL - ADOPT 2 FOR $200***
DOB : 24/12/22
Vet work status: Complete
Snuggle scope: Sweet Basil is quite an outgoing fellow. He's not much for cuddles, but enjoys a scratch and will happily lie on you in bed. He may be a little shy on first meeting new people but is very easily bribed with treats and toys :D
Cat scope: Likely as a result of growing up around social cats in foster care, Pepper and his siblings really appreciate (and NEED) the company of other cats, especially friendly, older cats. They all love to snuggle and play together, and love sharing grooming time.
Dog scope: Basil and siblings have gotten used to their carer's friendly cocker spaniel, but they prefer to keep their distance and mind their own business. They would be ok with a quiet, friendly dog who doesn't pay them much attention.
Child scope: Basil is quite happy to play with children (well anyone really!) who want to wave a toy around for, though he hasn't really spend any meaningful time with kids under 7. He will run and jump like crazy for hours if you let him!
Quirks: Basil has a toe fetish!! If he can't comfortably get to bare tootsies for a nibble, he'll reach up with his paws to pull them down... we try not to encourage it though as he can get a little rough haha. He also has such a love for food and gets so excited at meal time that he makes the most hilarious gurgle meow as he runs towards the bowl!
ABOUT:
This strapping, sleek “house pather” and siblings were a surprise gift to their rescuer last Christmas Eve. Their mother beautiful tabby mother Saffron was part of a small colony doing it tough in the bush. A few short weeks following her rescue, sacred little Saffron welcomed her 6 precious little "herbs and spices into the world:" Cayenne, Cassia, Chicory, Cinnamon (adopted), Basil, and Pepper. Thankfully, Saffron was an excellent mumma, and took very good care of her babies. However, as Saffron and never had any experience with humans, she was fiercely protective, making care a little tricky for her rescuer. Understandably, all of these babies picked up on their mother’s social anxieties and general distrust of humans and were all themselves little scared little spitfires upon transfer to our care at 6 weeks old.
It is amazing what a a difference a little patience, love, and safety can do for little scaredy cats. Over the space of only about 2 months, Basil and his siblings grew into confident, happy little house panthers! Another thing that really benefited these dear little ones was their association with the other cats in the household. Basil has drawn a lot of confidence from his calm, loving feline "aunties and uncles" in the house. He has constantly looked them for guidance and comfort, and sought out many a cuddle and groom from them. From them he has learned that humans are not only good for food, but also give really good scratches, are super fun, and make really great snuggle buddies on a cold night :).
You wouldn't believe it now, but Basil was the most fearful little spitfire of his family, only to transform into the most confident, handsome cat you see now! He has become very trusting and is incredibly playful. How, you may ask? Treats!! Once Basil was fully weaned, his love for food just grew so much stronger than his fears that he was easily won over with a range of delicious treats :). Then he discovered the excitement of "fishing rod" style toys! Now he will happily give all his attention to anyone willing to play with him! I'm so proud of this guy, how could you not want to invite him into your heart and home!!! Just look at that cute face!
Basil's ideal home would be with someone who really wants a companion that likes to hang around and have fun but isn't overly needy. Also, as he loves and craves attention from other cats so much, he will need a feline companion to share his life with, whether it's one of his siblings, his mumma, or an older friendly cat. Being that he has never set foot outside, he will also need a strictly indoor only home with plenty of toys and other creature comforts fit for any kitty.
If Basil sounds like the ideal companion for you, please contact us to arrange a meet and greet.
Medical notes
Basil is as healthy as a horse but has a fish intolerance. This is super easy to manage by avoiding fish flavoured foods, and checking the ingredients of dry kibble.

If Basil sounds like the perfect kitty for you, please contact us and will send you a form to arrange a meet and greet. If the meet and greet goes well and you would like to proceed to adoption, we will send you an application and, if successful, make arrangements to deliver your new baby (or 2!).
