About Bella Applegate
TO APPLY FOR ADOPTION PLEASE SEND IN APPLICATION FORM AVAILABLE BELOW:
https://www.victoriandogrescue.org.au/about-vicdrg/adoption-and-foster-application-forms.html
Bella is a gentle, friendly, intelligent, fun loving girl who brightens the world of all who meet her.
Bella has been trained and is an obedient girl who wants to get on with her humans. Like most Labradors she is food motivated, so this is a good way to help her respond to requests to sit, stay, lay down, wait etc, she is smart and quick to learn. She can sometimes have selective hearing depending on what is going on around her. She just needs some warmth and encouragement to help her settle into her new home.
On walks Bella enjoys sniffing and investigating the world around her but doesn’t pull or hold up the walk, she will be by your side and ready to explore everything along the way. If you are going for a car ride you will only have to ask her once to join you. Bella LOVES car a ride!
Bella is good on lead and house trained. She is friendly around other dogs, but after a few minutes of play and tail wagging usually prefers to keep to herself. If her new home has another doggy friend she will need to meet them first and would need time to adapt to life with them as she settles. Although she is friendly, she can feel a bit intimidated by dogs she doesn’t yet know.
Bella is crate trained, and feels safe and comfortable in the crate and is usually calm and settles quickly. At night she will lay on her bed, come up on the couch if invited or lay quietly at your feet. She has a good sense of her size and space and doesn’t knock into things or get too boisterous.
She is very active when around her family and their friends but does settle quickly and will sit quietly. If left alone for long periods of time she can have a tendency to chew, however, if she has chew toys with treats inside (peanut butter for example), and a doggy spot to lay on she manages pretty well. While in foster care her carer has been very low key about going out and returning home, and left the radio on for a bit of background noise. Bella hasn’t had any issues being left at home.
Bella is walked once or twice a day. She enjoys playing and will also invite her humans to play with her favourite toys. Bella has a sense of humour and gently teases her humans about having great toys that they will of course want as much as she does. Once she gives you the toy she will happily chase and return it to you for a short burst of play - 5 or 10 minutes.
Bella’ came from a home of humans who loved her and it shows in her manners and personality. Bella is fine with dogs she meets casually and would be able to coexist with another dog but she does not like dogs in her face wanting to play. Humans are her thing.
Bella would be well suited to an adult family or a home with children or teenagers and a backyard. She is apparently not comfortable around cats.
If you have been looking for a fun, affectionate, calm and loyal companion to share your life and adventures on the weekends, then consider your search over. Bella would be perfect for you!
Thank you to Al Lane for the gorgeous photos of Bella.

All our dogs are desexed, C5 vaccinated with intranasal, microchipped, wormed, and flea treated. All necessary vetwork such as dentals, surgery, eye treatment are also carried out. We are no longer heartworm testing as we have not had one positive test since we began in 2006. If a dog comes to us on heartworm treatment this is continued.

Adoption details
We are a community fostercare network, not a shelter, and our dogs and cats are cared for in private homes. Note that we are very careful where we rehome our dogs and cats and we have an intensive process. If you want a quick turnaround we are not the group for you. If you seem like a good match for the dog of your choice we will organise a telephone chat, a meet and greet and a property check. We offer free assistance for six weeks for any issues, a lifetime takeback policy with full refund of the adoption fee, and will always be available to offer advice.
We care for our dogs and cats and we want you to as well. We know that genuine applicants have no trouble with this process and understand that if we refuse you a dog or cat, it is because you are not the best match for that pet.
Our commitment to the dogs and cats in our care is total and we treat each one as if we are passing on a family pet. This may not suit you so we point out that there are equally great dogs and cats available in pounds, shelters and with other rescue groups.

We look forward to receiving your application.
