About Amma
Poor Amma has had a very rough time lately.
She was rescued from death row at a pound, adopted, and now her elderly mum needs to go into a nursing home.
Amma is a sweet and very affectionate girl who has had a hard start to life, more than likely involving abuse as she was very frightened and defensive when she came into the shelter. However, she has thrived in foster care and is learning to trust again through patience and love. She has come such a long way in such a short time, but still has a little way to go but is fast becoming a super love bug.
Amma is intelligent and adapts very quickly to new environments and people. Rather than hide when going into foster care, she was out and exploring and greeting new people. The secret to winning over Amma’s trust is in how you approach her. She is still a little scared of open hands, so letting her approach you and just present a finger or closed hand for her to sniff works a treat and she will reward you with lots of head boops. She is responding so well to love and pats and now seeks them out, however she is a typical cat and will let you know when she’s had enough. Learning her body language and signals is very important for you both.
Amma is an indoor cat and will need a scratch post, as she does love to scratch the lounge, but she does respond very well to the word no and is quick to learn boundaries. She has now had exposure to an outdoor enclosure and loves sunbaking and exploring the garden.
Amma is a people cat, she would be best with someone who is home a lot and needs an experienced cat person who understands that time and patience is key to winning her trust and affection, but you will be well rewarded with a super affectionate and playful little girl. She loves bopping ping pong balls around the room and hiding next to the couch to bop your feet as you walk past and performing zoomies around the house. She does not like closed doors or being shut in a room and prefers to be where you are or curled up on the bed snoozing.
She's not a fan of other cats and hasn't been tested with dogs, so she'd probably do best as an only pet. All in all, Amma might need a little time to feel fully at home, but once she does, she will love her new family unconditionally. She holds a lot of love in that little heart of hers, and she's waiting to share it with the right person.
