Pokey is the perfect blend of positivity and playfulness. He’s a doggy dynamo looking for a forever home where the fun never ends!
About Me: Sure, he might be a tad shy at first, but give him a moment, and he'll warm up to you like a cozy blanket on a chilly night.
Pokey is a human magnet and people just gravitate towards his infectious happy-go-lucky personality.
His secret weapons are his ears which are softer than any known material to man.
Ideal Home: Pokey is as adaptable as a chameleon, so whether you've got a bustling household with noisy kiddos or a serene oasis of tranquillity, he’s your guy.
He’s a bit of an outdoor enthusiast, so a medium to large yard with space to stretch his legs and high secure fencing would be just perfect. But don’t forget that he’s all about that indoor-outdoor lifestyle, baby! He’d love to be able to cuddle up with you on the couch and binge watch TV.
Family: Pokey is open to meeting kids from tiny tots to towering teens, and he’s just as thrilled to be part of a solo act as he is to join a full pack. He’s suitable for families, couples, or singles. He’s ready to be your best friend, playmate, or confidant.
His sound personality means that he is also suitable for people who work full time or part time.
Furry Friends: Pokey’s Dog to Dog Assessment is currently still pending.
As we cannot test for his reaction to cats, we are unable to say if he would be good to live with or meet cats. This would be up to the discretion of his new owners. As always, we recommend a slow & controlled introduction.
Work: Pokey is somewhat of a quick learner, especially when treats are involved. He would benefit from post-adoption training either at home or in group classes just to ensure that he is a well-rounded & well-mannered pooch. He’s currently nailed the command ‘sit’ and is working on adding more to his repertoire.
Our dedicated staff have also identified that he may also be suitable to take to local cafes. So, if you can Imagine yourself with matching puppuccinos at the trendiest dog-friendly cafes in town then Pokey has got you dialled! He could be your model citizen at lunch dates & picnics... The possibilities are endless.
We always recommend post-adoption training whether it be at home or with a professional. Training doesn’t have to be a chore – it can be a fun experience for you both, it doesn’t have to take long & is a great way for you to bond with your new pal.
Play: Let's get physical! He’s your ideal workout buddy, whether it's a brisk 30-minute stroll or an hour of playtime.
Pokey loves squeaky toys, plush toys, soccer balls – all of the toys!
Post-Adoption Life: With all animals it’s important to understand that going into a new environment with new people may not be as seamless as we want it to be. It’s important to know that these animals have unknown histories - most are left in the shelter by their owners. The information we have is from observing the animal’s behaviours & reactions to certain stimuli whilst in our care. Adopted animals can take up to 3 months to properly decompress from post-shelter life & a lot of behaviours & quirks may surface during this time. All that we ask is that their new owners have an open mind & are patient.
Adoption details
Please remember that the pets we have available sometimes come to us with no history, so we do our very best to get to know them while they are here and to match them to your home. Sometimes animals behave differently outside of the shelter environment, so please do keep in touch after adoption so that we can help you settle your new family member in and address any unexpected behaviours.
