About Dave - 2 Year Old Dogue De Bordeaux (Trial)
Dave is a very special big boy as he was one of the 28 French Mastiffs rescued from a backyard breeding situation. These dogs had been living in horrible circumstances and had never left the yard or exposed to the outside world until they were saved. Because of this they have missed out on critical socialisation, exposure and quite fearful of the outside world.
Despite this start to life these dogs are very dog social and have a beautiful temperament and are coming out of their shell everyday. Having said that they will need extra time and patience getting use to human touch, new sounds and feeling comfortable in their new homes.
We are offering extended training and support to Dave’s new home to help him and his new family get the confidence and tools to live the best life ever.
Dave is a shy guy, very quiet and timid young man. Dave really feels comfortable when following the lead of his bossy sister - they are thick as thieves! He enjoys snuggling on the couch at night with the family.
He is beautiful and gentle, Most days he loves nothing more than laying on the grass outside in sun all day. He had a difficult start to life and due to this is still learning basis skills like walking on the lead and sit command.
With lots of love, patience and direction he will get there. Dave loves his sister and has been non-reactive to others dogs the few times he has encountered them.
Dave prefers to head outside and keep to himself with kids around so will be best suited to a home with no kids or kids over 12.
He is fine to be left alone for fulltime working hours but will need another dog in the home for support and companionship. This is a non negotiable for Dave.
We would love to see Dave and his sister Bear adopted together if possible as it will make the transition much easier and help him for the future.
Dave will need consistent and ongoing training and socialisation which will require a big commitment as Dave needs someone he can trust and follow to know the world isn’t such a scary place.
At this stage Dave can’t be off lead at anytime outside of the house. So dog parks, beaches and off leash areas are not an option, but in the future hopefully.
Dave and Bear are in foster care in Newcastle area, NSW. Adoption fee is $400 each or $600 for both Dave and Bear. They are desexed, vaccinated, treated for fleas and worms and microchipped.
