Sooty 💎 1yo, male, Shih Tzu (On Trial 22/1/24)

Sooty is a male, Shih Tzu, only 1 year old. He is a very gentle soul. 💙 He is people focussed and will follow his human everywhere and loves nothing better than to be cradled and petted.

He gets along with his foster carer’s other small dogs but he doesn’t interact with them. He is mainly people focused so would be good as an only dog.

Sooty didn’t have any training or socialisation before he came into foster carer but he is quickly catching up and learning about the world. His foster carer has started housetraining and he uses a doggy door. He is clever and eager to learn so you could teach him lots of new things.

🥎 Since he is a young dog, he needs things to chew. We provide him with appropriate things to chew to keep him happy. He will take some time to settle into his forever home so you’ll need to take things slow with him and give him time to trust you before taking him out to new places.

Currently, he is eating two meals a day consisting of home-prepared meals of veggies, rice and meat. He is a very enthusiastic eater. Storms and vacuuming don’t worry him.

He previously lived with children and is fine with them but he’s not suited to a busy household with children under 12. He’d be fine when they visit though so long as they are gentle with him. He is good in the car for local trips but can get anxious on long trips.

He will chase bush turkeys so probably not great with free ranging chickens or pet birds. He has not been tested with cats. He isn't a nuisance barker.

He is ok left at home alone for part of the day but not all day. So, we're looking for someone who doesn’t work full time outside of the home. He’d be a great companion for someone who works from home or is retired. He prefers to sleep in the people bed, and is a quiet and calm sleeping companion.

Sooty is a low shedding breed so he’s good for people with allergies and won’t drop hair around the house. Of course, that means he’ll need professional clipping approximately every 6 weeks. He weighs 7.3kgs.

Sooty was surrendered to Dog Rescue Newcastle because their other dog was picking on him.

* no children under 12 years old,
* lives in NSW or ACT.

Sooty is in foster care in Cooranbong, NSW (southern Lake Macquarie, north of the Central Coast). ⭐️ He is available for adoption in NSW and ACT.

Sooty's adoption fee is $800 and he is desexed, vaccinated, treated for fleas, worms, vet checked, and microchipped.
