About Scarlet - 1 Year Old Jack Russell X (Trial)
Scarlet is a beautiful, loving, healthy and energetic young girl. She loves to be around people, is great with kids and very friendly with other dogs of all sizes and temperament. She loves to play, run, swim, cuddle and chew. Scarlet knows how to sit and has good recall unless she is too intrigued with the chicken coop or an interesting smell that needs to be explored first - she loves to be off leash for a super fast sprint and always comes back, just needs a moment to finish what she is doing first occasionally. The only time she barks is when she sees the resident wombat who she is slowly getting used to, visitors are always greeted in a friendly manner and with her tail wagging and no barking at all.
Given that she is only a pup, was recently rescued from a rural pound and has been left at home for longer than 6 hours on a few days in the past weeks, the chewing could stem from teething, previous stress or boredom. She loves to rip apart cuddly toys and to chew bones and other chewies so she can be distracted with those and trained out of the chewing over time. Scarlet still has accidents inside but is getting much better at house training and we are working hard on zero accidents every day. Given her combination of breeds (Jack Russell & Border Collie) she loves to jump and can jump high, something else we have started training on but that will need more attention in the future.
Scarlet loves to run super fast and needs a lot of exercise to get all that energy out of her (2 walks a day are a must!) but she equally loves to cuddle up on the couch and on the bed at the end of the day once all of this energy is burnt. She wants to be close and needs to always be part of the family. She currently sleeps on the bed with us or on the floor right outside the bedroom door when it is shut, in her new home she needs to be allowed to sleep indoors.
She has been living with two young and loud kids (aged 2 and 6) and is very sweet and gentle with them, accepting cuddles and pats on tap and gives lots of love back, the only thing that needs attention with smaller kids around is the jumping.
Scarlet is currently living with chickens, pocket pets and one cat and shows a lot of interest in them. A home with none of the above may be best to reduce stress on the smaller animals or if you have any of the above, safe enclosures for the smaller animals are a must. With the cat she has been more interested rather than aggressive and has accepted the cats need for space and distance but would need to be watched and tested with any other cat first.
Overall, Scarlet would love an active home with people who love her for her energy and all the love she likes to give. She loves kids and would ideally have another dog to play with and keep her company during the day as well.
Scarlet is in foster care in Quorrobolong NSW. Her adoption fee is $700 and she is desexed, vaccinated, treated for fleas and worms, and microchipped.
