About Matilda
Hi! I’m Matilda and I’m looking for a new family to call my own.
APPLICATION PROCESS APPLIES FOR MATILDA
PLEASE COMPLETE THE BELOW APPLICATION FORM
https://forms.gle/QCNAgfWfr46SYThc6
NOTE: You are unable to meet Matilda until/unless you have been notified that you are a successful applicant. An adoption cannot be approved unless you are able to come to the shelter to meet Matilda in person and bring any dogs you currently have with you.
What I need in my new home:
• BREED KNOWLEDGE IS PREFERRED
• Daily walks, trips to the park or beach, playtime in the backyard
• Further training with basic doggie manners
• To be allowed inside with my family
• A doggie playmate would be great, if not then lots of socialising with other dogs
• I like friendly male dogs
• Secure Fencing (6ft Colorbond or equivalent)
• Lots of toys and mental stimulation
• A diet of good quality dry food to help keep my teeth clean
• A family who promise to keep me well groomed and brush me regularly so I’m always looking and feeling my best
• Lots of love and attention
• I can be shy at first so I need a family who’ll allow me to grow in confidence in my own time
• I am a clever, young and active doggo - I would be great for dog training, trick training, agility etc.
• Being an active breed I have a lot of energy so an active family is a must!
• Doggy daycare and group socialisation classes would be highly beneficial for me.
• It is unsure if I have socialized with another dog before coming into the shelter so I can be unsure of how to behave around and with them! I will require a lot of positive socialisation with other dogs so that my behaviour improves and not deteriorates towards them.
• I LOVE water and would love to have my very own clam pool to laze around in.
• I have a high prey drive so I can't go to a home that already has cats, rabbits/guinea pigs or chickens/ducks as I will chase them
• TRAINING TRAINING TRAINING. It's ESSENTIAL I receive training in all aspects of my life so I can be the best dog I can be when I'm older.
• SOCIALISATION is as important for me as it appears I've led a very sheltered life and can be a bit nervous/shy in new situations. Since being at the shelter I'm becoming much braver though. Taking me to lots of different places, meeting lots of people (children, men, woman etc) and meeting lots of dogs and other animals will help boost my confidence
Things that I don’t want in my new home:
• To be left alone in the backyard without any interaction
• Not to be allowed inside with my family
• Never to go on a walk or rides in the car
• No young children as I can be a bit shy in new situations and with new people and little ones may accidently scare me. Older children who will be involved with my training should be ok
• Cats or small animals as I may find them fun to chase
• Cats, rabbits, guinea pigs & livestock
My best features:
• I can sit
• I have had some basic obedience training and am a generally well-mannered dog
• I love attention and having snuggles with my humans
• I walk well on lead
• Love to snooze on the couch
Where I need to improve / Training required
• I will require full basic training as I've had no training experience yet
• I'm learning to walk on the lead at the shelter and am getting much better. I'm still a bit slow and fearful but with lots of practice I should soon look forward to a daily stroll around the neighbourhood
• I seem to be nervous/scared of other dogs, so taking me places where I'll interact with dogs in a controlled environment will help me learn to not be scared of them anymore.
• I am shy at first with new people and in new environments so will require a family who will take their time allowing me to settle in and continue on with my socialization
• Unsure in new situations – more socialising is needed
• I need further training on my recall as I can ignore you if you're trying to call me back to you
• I can sometimes initially be shy and try to avoid things going over my head (lead etc). It doesn't take long for me warm up and my excitable & full of life nature to come out.
• I do walk quite well on the lead once settled, however I can pull if something interests me and can be quite skittish if startled so walking in a harness is recommended
