About Petey
Meet sweet Petey!
A lot of you may know Petey’s story, but for those who don’t, this resilient boy has been through a lot in his short life. He fell off a ute in rural NSW and badly broke his leg. His owner at the time didn’t seek veterinary assistance and a week later took him in to be euthanised. Luckily, Petey stole the hearts of those at the vet clinic and assistance was sought to get him into the care of rescue. He has had a long journey with many twists and turns in his recovery, but he is now ready to find his forever family and whichever family adopts this boy is going to be seriously blessed with one of the most incredible dogs we have ever had in care.
Petey has been lucky enough to be fostered by a sensational foster family with exceptional dog handling skills and this has resulted in Petey being able to develop into a beautiful family dog. They have spent numerous hours training him and exposing to so many new situations that he is an extremely versatile dog who you can take anywhere. He is beyond cuddly with his family and enjoys being involved in all family activities. For his age, Petey is already confident in most environments and great at generalising his training achievements. He knows sit, down, paw, spin, stay, no and he walks well on a leash. Petey is fully toilet trained, is picking up on recall very well and has been trained on respecting thresholds such as open car or house doors when told to wait. He is also crate trained and he enjoys sleeping in his crate without a peep overnight. Petey loves playing tug and fetch so much that toys can be used as a motivator during training. However, he is also food driven and a quick learner who loves to please his humans, so training is a breeze!
Petey is currently living with a staffy type female dog who he has built a very lovely relationship with. He enjoys playing and going on walks with his foster sibling and has learnt to be a respectful companion with her. Petey is an extremely loyal and loving dog with his family and friends. Petey is the perfect adventure buddy and loves being included on camping trips and paddle board outings with his foster family (how cool!). On these trips he has been exposed to horses, camels, and sheep which he happily coexists besides. He’s also fine with cats!
Petey is ALWAYS up for a pat or a good snuggle with his foster carers. Kids are quite interesting to him, and he has been very sweet with children he has interacted with. We feel he would make the perfect family dog. Being a puppy, Petey will need continued socialisation with other people, dogs and new places to ensure he stays the wonderfully social boy he is. Petey is fine to be left home alone for a couple of hours, but he would relish the chance to live with a family who are around more often than not. Even though he is currently living in a unit brilliantly, it would be great for him to have a home with a yard or live life on the land where he can bowl around having fun. Given his extensive number of vet visits during his earlier ordeal, it would be beneficial for his new owners to do some easy visits to his new local vet clinic to build up some positive associations and let him work his charm on his new vet and nurses.
In Petey’s ideal world he would live with a family that is home more often than not and have another doggy friend who can be a great role model for him. His new family should continue his basic training and crate training. Petey would love to be included in all the family activities and adventures as much as possible. Any potential family will have access to his medical history, but in short, his specialist orthopaedic surgeon has given him the all clear to live a full and normal life. He will just need to be kept on joint supplements such as Antinol Rapid which he is currently getting. Petey is currently on a fresh food idea and would love for his new owners to continue this. Currently he weighs around 20kg, so is expected to end up on the smaller size of large when fully grown.
Whoever is lucky enough to welcome this amazing puppy into their home will be blessed with an adaptable, loving, goofy and loyal dog who is the definition of resilience. We cannot wait to find Petey his perfect home. He has a HUGE fan club and is a bit of celebrity, so we hope it won’t be long until he has a family of his very own. Then his rocky start in life can be all but forgotten.

This puppy will be adopted out under a desexing contract that will require the dog to be desexed by a given age. The cost of desexing will be included as part of the adoption fee. A $250 desexing bond will be payable in addition to the adoption fee and will be refunded upon proof of desexing. This process is further discussed with successful applicants.
Don't see a breed attached to one of our dogs? That's because we don't breed label dogs of unknown genetic history. We can't guess at breeds but that's okay, because we can tell you about the dog's individual personality, character, and behaviour.
