Meet Lantern, the sweet and sensitive soul who is ready to find her forever home! If you have experience with dogs and are looking for a furry friend with some unique needs, Lantern might just be the perfect addition to your family.
Lantern is a dog with immense potential, waiting for someone with the right blend of patience, love, and understanding to help her reach her full potential. If you're ready to open your heart to this wonderful girl, she's ready to shine bright in your life.
About Me: Lantern's story is one of growth and potential. She's a bit timid and shy, but with the right environment and a little patience, she's sure to blossom into the loving companion you've been searching for.
In her previous home we suspect that she had limited, if not, no training, handling, toys, or interaction with people or other animals. So our staff are working with her and are trying to undo & repair Lantern. An owner who is just as committed would be an amazing step for her in the right direction.
Ideal Home: A calm and quiet home would be ideal for her to continue working on her confidence. We can see that once she feels secure, she will be the ideal companion for active and outdoorsy people.
Lantern would thrive in a home with free access to both indoors and outdoors. A small to medium yard with high secure fencing will give her the space she needs to play and explore safely.
Family: If you have kids aged 5-10, Lantern is open to meeting them, so she could be a great addition to a family looking for a gentle and loving dog.
Furry Friends: She's shown us her social and playful side when meeting other dogs, but her lack of confidence can make her slightly uneasy when other dogs get too close. This means she'll need some confidence training and regular, slow interactions with other dogs to help her get used to them.
With the right guidance, she can learn to socialize with her furry friends and enjoy their company.
We are unsure how she would be living with cats/pocket pets.
Work Hard: Crate training is something that can provide her with a sense of security, and post-adoption training, both at home and with a professional, will go a long way in helping her gain confidence and become more self-assured in social situations.
Treats, especially devon, are sure to bring a wag to her tail & are a great way to bond & reward her during these training sessions.
We always recommend post-adoption training whether it be at home or with a professional. Training doesn’t have to be a chore – it can be a fun experience for you both, it doesn’t have to take long & is a great way for you to bond with your new pal.
Play Hard: While she might be a bit unsure about toys (for now), she prefers human interaction, and her love for cuddles and pats is boundless.
She has medium energy needs and benefits from daily exercise and/or walks, making her a great match for part-time workers or those who work a few hours a day.
Lantern is a fairly quiet dog, rarely barking, and she's a water-loving pup who enjoys playing in it & splashing around.
Post-Adoption Life: With all animals it’s important to understand that going into a new environment with new people may not be as seamless as we want it to be. It’s important to know that these animals have unknown histories - most are left in the shelter by their owners. The information we have is from observing the animal’s behaviours & reactions to certain stimuli whilst in our care. Adopted animals can take up to 3 months to properly decompress from post-shelter life & a lot of behaviours & quirks may surface during this time. All that we ask is that their new owners have an open mind & are patient.
Adoption details
Please remember that the pets we have available sometimes come to us with no history, so we do our very best to get to know them while they are here and to match them to your home. Sometimes animals behave differently outside of the shelter environment, so please do keep in touch after adoption so that we can help you settle your new family member in and address any unexpected behaviours.
