About Flint
Flint is a beautifully natured old red and tan kelpie who is searching for his forever home with a family who will appreciate just how lucky they are to share their lives with such a gem of a doggo
There’s no denying he displays all the classic hallmark traits of a kelpie that can make them notoriously challenging for small suburban yards - he is endlessly watchful, skittish, flighty, and possesses a brain that literally NEVER rests. However, this tiny 14kg flash of a dog is also a total lover - he is a fun, respectful and affectionate friend to all dogs and people, and his personality is as soft and sweet as any lap dog you could ever hope to meet.
He is everything a good working breed should be - fun and adventurous, full of mischief, and super soft and snuggly.
Flint has been an absolute joy to care for in his foster home and he deserves a family who will love and nurture him for the rest of his days. FAVORITE THINGS Flint just loves being outside playing and running with other dogs. He is super fast and agile and he loves a good game of chase with his dog friends even though there’s really no competition as he will out pace (and out dodge!) any of his foster siblings within a few seconds.
He enjoys going for walks - however, as is so common with many working dogs, he finds moving cars just too overwhelming to ignore and will stalk and lunge at cars that go by. He has been walked on a slip lead which has been very effective and he is easy to control as he is so light. On quiet roads, he actually walks really well beside his carer and with more practice and a dedicated owner, he will make a lovely walking and/or running companion. After a walk and a play, he loves chilling outside in the sunshine or being inside with his humans. He is a quiet, devoted follower of his foster mum wherever she goes

Flint is a sensitive soul and a bit hesitant to rush in when meeting new people however all it takes is a kind voice and gentle hand and Flint will go from shy to “OH HI!!” Flint’s way of greeting and affection is to jump up to people and actually cuddle the top their leg with his face pressed into their waist. His foster family is working hard on helping him understand that four feet on the floor is the polite way to meet new friends, but in all honesty, he is so little and light, and his cuddly greetings are just so damn endearing that we just can’t resist him, and now we just bow down to his level and smoosh our faces into his for a kiss which just makes him so happy. When he snuggles into you, his eyes soften and he relaxes into total and utter bliss. Flint has picked up the “sit” command very quickly and once he’s had a cuddle he is happy to sit quietly next to you while you stroke under his chin and around his face. This boy simply does not have a mean bone in his body.
Flint has been in foster care with three large boisterous resident dogs. He has proven to be absolutely bomb proof around all dogs he has met - he senses which ones he can invite into a wild game of chase, and which ones to give a wide berth to. Flint has been in foster care with three dog-savvy cats who he loves waayyy more than they love him. He exhibits the usual characteristics of a working breed and is a little obsessed with the cats, following them wherever they go and very occasionally being unable to resist trying to have a little taste of them. For this reason we would recommend that he be rehomed only with cats who are capable of putting him swiftly back in his place. Flint is very interested in watching the sheep that live next door to his foster family and also the horses that live across the road. He has never attempted to jump the farm fencing at his foster home and his instincts are obviously a herding dog rather a “hurting” dog - so with slow and sensible introductions, Flint is likely to be Avery good companion to any livestock in his new home.
Flint sleeps in a covered dog crate in the garage. Flint is a high energy dog and requires a daily walk in rain, hail or shine. He cannot be left to languish in the backyard, even if his new home is on a large block. Flint has been walking off lead in the back paddocks of his foster home and whilst he does run super fast in every single direction, he is a very loyal boy and knows to come straight back after he’s had a run. He has met other off lead dogs whilst on these walks and has behaved impeccably toward them. Inside the Home Flint is generally very well behaved inside the house although he does love a run at full pelt up and down the corridor and onto and off the couch whilst engaged in wild play. He has had a couple of toileting accidents inside but only when his foster mum has been slack in remembering to take him outside after his dinner or a nap. Flint just loves to be near his people and if the couch is already claimed by his foster siblings, he is very happy to lay curled up on the floor at your feet. He will follow you as soon as you get up and is definitely a devoted toilet and shower companion.
Ideal Home Flint is a simply beautiful young dog with simple needs and a heart of gold and he would thrive in a home with a family who would welcome him as a valued member. He needs a home with a good sized yard to run around and explore. Shelter in the backyard is a must. Flint adores people of all ages and will give one of his trademark cuddles to anyone. loves people, although he may be timid to meet them to begin with. As with any sensitive dog, pats under the chin and on the chest are much more comfortable for him than reaching out to pat his head, as he will duck his head in concern. He has shown himself to be very trustworthy around young school aged children so would be fine in a home where children are aged 5 years or older. Flint would just love to have another dog (or 3!) in his new home - but they must be well socialized and eager to play. Flint is dearly loved by his foster carers and only the very best home will be chosen for him.
