Meet Meeko, a nervous but sweet-natured poodle cross in need of a specialised home that can understand and prioritise his unique needs. Finding the right environment for Meeko will be crucial to help him thrive. First and foremost, he requires a calm atmosphere, free from the commotion of a busy household. He would be most comfortable in a child-free environment as sudden movements and loud noises can easily overwhelm him.

The key to Meeko’s success lies in a patient and experienced owner with an understanding of dog behavioral issues and willing to invest time and effort into positive reinforcement training. Meeko thrives on structure and routine, so a consistent caregiver is essential to help him gain confidence. Regular, patient training sessions will not only build his trust but also help him overcome his nervousness. He also requires his caregiver to be active, willing and able to take him on daily walks - which he loves - and getting him out and about to overcome his fears of other people.

Despite appearances, he is not a lapdog and is much calmer when undertaking activities and training. He thrives on confident and strong leadership where he can relax and trust that you will keep him safe. As Meeko is very clever, setting good boundaries of appropriate behavior with him will also help him feel more confident, enhance your relationship with him, and prevent behavioral issues in the future.

A secure, fenced yard is a must, as Meeko enjoys his outdoor time and it will provide a safe space for him to explore at his own pace. A calm, well-socialized canine companion could possibly be beneficial in providing him with a positive role model; however a home with no other pets would be ideal as he is not very interested in doggy companions and may see them as competition for your affections. As a poodle mix with a very curly coat, Meeko also needs regular grooming; his new owner must be able to afford professional grooming or be willing to undertake the grooming themselves.

With the right home and dedicated owner, Meeko can embark on a journey towards becoming a more confident and relaxed companion. He has already made great strides in his foster home and is beginning to come out of his shell and show his full clever and funny personality.
