About Davey
🌟 Delightful Davey 🌟
Davey is a mixed bag of personalities. He can act timid and unsure of his environments at times but he can also be very interactive and playful at other times.
HOUSEHOLD- Davey is a quiet dog and doesn’t appear to have any separation anxiety. He would be suited to a household who work full time. Davey would be ok if he was left in the backyard during the day to soak up the sun and relax.
Davey has shown us a timid side with loud noises so a home with very young children isn’t recommended. Davey very rarely jumps up for attention so he would be suitable to be rehomed with older kids who understand Davey’s needs around loud noises.
ON-GOING TRAINING- Davey knows how to sit on command and will need some confidence boosting for some situations in his new home.
ON LEAD- Davey is a strong dog when he wants to be. He pulls considerably hard on a lead especially if he sees another dog or gets the smell of something.
Davey needs a physically strong owner to walk him and give him some on going lead training.
Davey hesitates coming back into our shelter. He pulls backwards and won’t walk without a lot of reassurance. It’s completely understandable why he does this and we know once he is in a happy home he won’t ever have to worry about being put back into a kennel ever again.
PLAY/TOYS- Davey has shown no interest in toys. Staff have tried to initiate a game with Davey in different settings and he still shows no interest in any toys.
OTHER DOGS- Davey loves other dogs. He loves giving them a good sniff and jumping around with them. We would love for Davey to be rehomed with another dog as that is when he is his happiest. Davey likes both male and female dogs and has interacted with dogs of all sizes at the shelter.
CATS/OTHER ANIMALS- Davey was very unsure when he walked into our cattery. When he saw a cat he approached with a lowered body. Davey looked at the cat for a little while as he sniffed it then proceeded to give his handler all of his attention.
Davey met another cat who hissed at him and again he proceeded to give his handler his attention and didn’t focus on the cat.
With the correct cat Davey could live with a feline friend based on these reactions. We always recommended slow introductions with cats in a home environment.
CARE/GROOMING- Davey shows a nervousness when he is being handled. He lowers himself to the ground. He will allow you to brush him and handle him but needs some confidence building in this area.
EXERCISE- Davey loves to get out and about away from our shelter environment. He enjoys going on long walks and having play dates with his other pound friends. Davey is suited to be at dog friendly places where he can continue to explore and meet new doggy friends.
NUTRITION- Davey loves his food! He isn’t a fussy eater. He is very gentle when you hand feed him treats and allows you to pat him and touch his food while he is eating. We have seen no signs of food aggression from Davey.
