About Billy
Billy is seeking his new home and we are helping with an assisted rehome
Meet the handsome boy Billy. Billy is a German shorthair pointer x staffy 28 kilos . He definitely has taken on dads characteristics of German shorthair pointer more than his staffy mum. He has a lovely gentle nature to match his stunning physique.
Billy is looking to join an active family where he can smother you in love and smoochy kisses
He is a dog social boy and has been well socialised from a young age and would love a playmate
PLEASE NOTE BILLY IS NOT ONE OF OUR DOGS AND IS AN ASSISTED REHOME DUE TO HIS FAMILY NOT BEING ABLE TO KEEP DUE TO CIRCUMSTANCE CHANGE
We have assessed him as follows
Favourite things
Cuddles with humans (especially on the coach and in bed)
Long walks so if you are into running or hiking he will happily accompany you on adventures
Kong , chew toys and
Balls- Chuckit brand preferable for strong chewers
Tug o war
Food
Interaction with humans
Billy interacts well around people, at times he can get a little excited but does settle. He has been around children and elderly and seems to understand peoples energy levels.
He does enjoy being around people more often than not and when his people are home he loves a cuddle on the couch but also happy to snooze on his bed. Billy is looking for a family who will include him in their daily life activities
Obedience/Training
Billy has spent time in training and has mastered Sit , Shake (and ‘other hand’, Lay
Wait, Spin (to do a 360 degree turn) and then ‘other way’. Billy walks fairly well on lead with a moderate amount of pulling on a gentle leader. He is great off lead in enclosed parks and has good recall.
Exercise
Billy being a shorthair pointer is a working breed so does need daily exercise so we are looking for a family committed to exercising him daily. Billy does go off lead to stretch his legs and will recall quite well. He does like chasing the ball but we do limit it as he can be quite obsessed. Billy would suit a family that is active and sporty as he loves to be out and about doing stuff with his humans. He needs reasonable size yard to do zombies and let out some energy
Animal Social Skills
Billy is dog social and is polite around dogs he meets . He does not lunge or pull towards other dogs is happy to walk past dogs and have the odd sniff here and there. He does like to play with others but will usually allow them to instigate play first.
He does not need to say hello to every dog and is not in their face We feel he would be suited to a calm female dog of similar size. He does not like cats and has not been tested around other pocket pets
Inside the home
Billy is well behaved inside especially if he’s been exercised he will lay in his bed.
He doesn’t show any destructive traits when inside but is not left unsupervised. He is calm and polite most the time but occasionally gets excited around visitors wanting some attention and pats. He is not overly jumpy
Billy sleeps inside on his mat or couch wherever he prefers
Car travel
Billy will happily get in and out of the car. He can whine at times with excitement but will eventually lay down on long car rides. He is on a low dose anxiety medication which has helped
Billy is a foodie and loves his food and treats. Currently being fed Royal Canin Maxi Adult
Billy will sit for treats and lift his paw to shake. He takes treat’s gently from your hand
Favourite treats
Peanut butter and kibble frozen kongs
Frozen enrichment bowl with kibble/peanut butter/greek yoghourt or any combination
Chicken breast
Carrots
Billy ain’t fussy lol
Independence
Billy is left at home alone while his carer works but currently is in a small yard so he has lots of enrichment toys
Loves to play with his ball, chew his toy bone, lay in the sun, or have a frozen enrichment bowl
Billy really would prefer someone home as he does like company of people
He is not overly barky unless other dogs bark.
He is happy to be outside when people have to leave the home now that he is on medication. He would do well in a home where people work from home or partime.
Bathing/Hygiene
Billy is toilet trained
He has a short easy to care for coat and does not require grooming, maybe just the occasional bath
Medical Issues
Billy is on a low dose of anti anxiety medication and this is more to help him focus when out and about, when home alone or during car trips
He may be able to be weaned off in the future once settled. He seemed to be slightly anxious when out the home but we have noticed a big improvement being
medicated and this may improve if he has a doggy friend to socialize with at home
Ideal home
With or without another dog
Active family, high energy home with a decent backyard
Someone who is a home body and wants a best buddy by their side
Older children and teenagers to play games with
A home near a beach or water as he loves having a splash around
A loving family for life
