About Freya

Stunning 9-month-old Freya is a long stock coat German Shepherd who found herself homeless and in the pound at this young age. We don’t know much about her history but know that her most recent home surrendered her to the pound after only 4 days. Freya is now safe in GSRV care, we are determined to find a forever home her so that she can experience a loving and stable environment, a home that is truly forever.
Freya is a people dog; she takes the term German Shadow to an entire new level and is a Velcro dog that wants to be wherever you are. Freya will sit on your feet, will help with chores around the house and yard, she will be your best friend, the most loyal companion. Freya becomes stressed when separated from her humans, she wants to be with someone all the time and will need a human home often, or the ability to go with her person to work. Freya barks when left alone for a prolonged time, having another dog around does not stop this.
Freya is a young pup, and still has some manners she needs to learn, when over-stimulated or anxious, she will jump up and mouth for attention and to seek reassurance. Freya needs an owner that has experience with young German Shepherds that can teach her that this is unacceptable, she will need boundaries and guidance on how to behave appropriately. For now, Freya is suited to a home with children over the age of 10 years old, she is not nasty, just a baby herself who is still learning and may accidentally hurt small children until manners are taught.
Freya is very clever and knows her basic commands, she loves to learn and is motivated by both treats and toys. Freya would love to participate in training sessions with her new humans, she would thrive attending group obedience classes where she can learn under distraction, she walks beautifully on lead for the most-part however will give something a big woof if she is unsure.
Freya gets along well with other dogs and enjoys playing with them, she would benefit from living with a large-breed male dog that is confident and friendly. Freya could also be ok as the only dog in her new home, she much prefers the company of her humans anyway!
Freya has had a little exposure to a cat, she didn’t much enjoy getting swiped, but respected the cat’s space and backed off. Freya will chase a cat if it runs, however with slow introductions and boundaries, we feel she could be integrated into a household with a cat. Freya has not been tested with livestock or other small pets.
Freya is the most adorable girl that will have you laughing at her antics, she has the best head tilt we’ve ever seen and is a goofball that doesn’t quite realise her size. Freya LOVES squeaky toys and will squeak them until they can squeak no more, all of course whilst sitting on your foot or in your lap. Our beautiful girl will make the most amazing companion once given stability, patience and some much needed training.

Adoption details
We offer a 'Foster to Adopt' program. This means that the dog will go to live with their adoptive family for 4 weeks to ensure it is the perfect match for both the dog and new family. After the 4 weeks is complete, if all has gone well, the adoption is formalised and your new doggy companion is officially yours!
If you are interested in adopting from us, we ask that you fill out the Adoption Application form on our website (via the link provided below) with as much detail as possible, including the name of the dog you are interested in.
We do not rehome female dogs to a home where there is an existing female dog. Whilst there are always exceptions, it is generally unwise to have two females together; two males can sort it out, a male and a female can sort it out, but when two females fight, the results can be disastrous. For this reason, following the advice from numerous Veterinary behaviourists, as well as our own experience from the last eight years, we do not rehome females into homes with other female dogs.
All of our dogs are de-sexed, vaccinated, microchipped, flea and worm treated
