About Georgie
Meet Georgie - The Delightful Mix Breed Looking for Her Forever Home!
Hello everyone! I'm Georgie, a sweet and clever mix breed who's been on an amazing journey with BARRC for the past 13 weeks. For the last three weeks, I've been lucky to be in the loving care of one of the BARRC foster carer's Jane who has some wonderful things to share about me.
Georgie has blossomed into a confident and well-behaved girl under Jane's care. Jane says, ""We just got back from a river walk - it's just so lovely to see how confident she is becoming!""
Georgie is a quick learner and has mastered commands like 'wait.' She patiently stands back from doorways, waits in the car to be released, and even waits for her food - she's one smart cookie! Jane has been working on 'stay' and 'come' with her, and Georgie is fantastic in the back yard. She walks well on a lead, and Jane uses a retractable lead for a relaxed walk, allowing her to showcase her graceful movements, much like a greyhound.
During walks in the bush and along the river, Georgie's alert nature shines when she spots roos. Her prey instinct kicks in, making it important to keep her on lead around wildlife. But don't worry, she's great with other dogs! Georgie behaves in a relaxed and appropriate manner with dogs on walks, and she's even had successful playdates in a secure back yard.
Jane has been working on addressing Georgie's initial anxiety around other dogs by using positive reinforcement methods recommended by K9 Connection trainers. This approach is proving effective, and Georgie is becoming more relaxed in these situations.
When excited, Georgie has a unique way of expressing herself that might be misunderstood. Her low growl and what may seem like baring her teeth are actually her adorable smile - once you know, it's truly endearing!
While she's provided with a crate, Georgie prefers not to use it, possibly indicating a past aversion to confinement. She sleeps through the night on her bed in the lounge room, and during short periods alone, she stays on her bed without causing a fuss.
Georgie loves some good playtime in the yard, enjoying a sprint for about 3 minutes before winding down. She's also content playing with toys for a short duration. Despite recent illness, she has been a caring companion, happily adapting to shorter walks and rest periods.
As for her interactions with children, Jane's 4-year-old granddaughter and local school kids have had delightful experiences with Georgie. She doesn't lick faces and is gentle, making her potentially suitable for a family with someone at home or working remotely.
Georgie hasn't shown any destructive behavior, and she hasn't dug in the garden. Despite the open-mouth poses in some photos, she's not 'mouthy' and doesn't attempt to bite hands. Georgie is truly a gem waiting to find her forever home.
If you're looking for a loyal and loving companion, Georgie might be the perfect match for you. Reach out to BARRC to learn more about this wonderful girl and how you can make her a permanent part of your family. 🏡🐾❤️
