About Cookie Yarbury
TO APPLY FOR ADOPTION PLEASE SEND IN APPLICATION FORM AVAILABLE BELOW:
https://www.victoriandogrescue.org.au/about-vicdrg/adoption-and-foster-application-forms.html/
Meet Cookie, aka "Scooby Doo". She's on the case for any stray sticks that need to be retrieved! Her morning starts with a hop, skip and a jump out the door to complete her toileting, have some breakfast, antelope-bounding back inside to her beanbag for a couple more hours sleep (lazy bones). She lives with two adult hoomans from whom she loves, being picked up for cuddles and having squishy face pats.
Her furry housemates include a 3yr old and a 17yr old both the same size as her, with whom she gets along really well with. She has learnt to be respectful of older dogs boundaries and the 3yr old has taught her some firm playing rules.
Cookie has come so far in lead training; using a Halti she has learnt to walk calmly by her foster carers side on a loose lead. She is not reactive to other calm dogs on the lead but is interested to want to sniff. She is very confident at home and places she knows well and will try to play with any dogs that come near her in those spaces. With her comfort and confidence at home she will happily be left with her foster siblings for the day while her foster hoomans are at work. Or she would take any opportunity to jump in the car to come with her hoomans.
Cookie knows "sit" and "lie down" and "heel" and she knows her name. Her recall is getting very good! She will sit and wait for her meals and won't rush in until you say "ok". This training has made her understand that she cannot take food whenever she wants it. She is very smart and will benefit from more opportunities to use her brain!
After a day filled with a walk and a swim in the lake, fetching and chewing sticks, plays with her foster bro and lounging in the sun, Cookie wants nothing more than to cuddle and be with her hoomans until they go to sleep. Although she would gladly sleep with her hoomans if given the chance, Cookie will walk herself to her crate and take herself to bed when asked "go to bed" and stay there quiet throughout the night. Of course she will let it be known if she needs to pee!
Cookie has met chickens and horses and learnt to leave them alone. Untested with cats but we believe she would do fine with some patience and guidance as she has not fixated on any other animals and has spent time with a cat through glass seemingly uninterested.
Please note: our dogs are not available for interstate adoption. We also do not adopt to people under the age of 25 years.

All our dogs are desexed, C5 vaccinated with intranasal, microchipped, wormed, and flea treated. All necessary vetwork such as dentals, surgery, eye treatment are also carried out. We are no longer heartworm testing as we have not had one positive test since we began in 2006. If a dog comes to us on heartworm treatment this is continued.

Adoption details
We are a community fostercare network, not a shelter, and our dogs and cats are cared for in private homes. Note that we are very careful where we rehome our dogs and cats and we have an intensive process. If you want a quick turnaround we are not the group for you. If you seem like a good match for the dog of your choice we will organise a telephone chat, a meet and greet and a property check. We offer free assistance for six weeks for any issues, a lifetime takeback policy with full refund of the adoption fee, and will always be available to offer advice.
We care for our dogs and cats and we want you to as well. We know that genuine applicants have no trouble with this process and understand that if we refuse you a dog or cat, it is because you are not the best match for that pet.
Our commitment to the dogs and cats in our care is total and we treat each one as if we are passing on a family pet. This may not suit you so we point out that there are equally great dogs and cats available in pounds, shelters and with other rescue groups.
If you are still interested, please download an application form from our website:

The application form must be emailed to us:

Please note that we do not take/make telephone calls prior to receiving an application.
Commonly asked questions and their answers are provided when you email us. Unfortunately we usually will not have time to reply to enquiries in more detail and will give priority to completed applications over enquiries. Priority will also be given to typed applications which are easier for us to read and to copy relevant parts.
We look forward to receiving your application.
