About Wally Yarbury

Wally is a brilliant little guy who is a poster pup for the resilience of dogs. Left in a yard with minimal interaction or activity for most of his life, Wally has taken to foster care like a boss. He loves being part of the household and learning how to dog. Wally is a playful guy, who enjoys the odd zoomie around the house, but is also a master of snooze, sleeps well through the night and travels calmly in the car. He absolutely loves to snuggle on your lap when it’s tv time in the evening. Out and about, Wally has taken beautifully to walking on lead, is polite with passing dogs and happy when he sees small people. He is really good with his recall, except on the odd occasion where he may be distracted but he loves to run off lead at the beach or in the park. Wally’s carers have been showing him the world and he is typically very well behaved when stopping with friends or at the local café.
While in our care, Wally has really come out of his shell - he is friendly and affectionate when he gets comfortable, and clearly wants to love and be loved in return. Given his happy spirit, his ability to learn and his need to build confidence after a lifetime of neglect, Wally is a great candidate for developing new skills and a bond with his people through rewards-based training.
Wally is perfectly house trained and is using the dog door.He gets along with pretty much every other dog outside the house and steps back if he is unsure. But, in the home he wants to boss dogs around who are not confident enough to show him the ropes. He would be a perfect companion with another friendly dog who is confident enough to not get pushed around by him but who also has a playful nature as he loves a good wrestling session as well as zoomies with his best friend. Preferably he should have a doggie friend in his new home or lots of opportunities to socialize with familiar family or friends dogs.
In foster care, Wally has been okay when left by his carers during the day and is not destructive in the house. He can be worried about being locked outside and appreciates company when in the yard. This is understandable, given his history of being left alone. Wally came into care underweight and with some discomfort in his mouth. He is now a happier and healthier dog. Wally is not a resource guarder but you cannot take food off him, and he will try stealing other dogs food if unsupervised. Sometimes he brings up his food again. He eats from a slow feeder bowl but still eats very quickly. He needs not too large amounts at a time otherwise he tends to bring it up again.
Wally is lovely guy and deserves all the good things in life. He is looking for a family who will provide him with patient guidance and new experiences and spend time with him as he learns how to dog. Wally will do better in a home where people are around more often than not, although he will be okay on his own while his people are out for work or play. His new home will be with an adult family, or a family with older teenagers. In his new home, Wally absolutely must be welcomed inside day and night. Wally will reward his new people with all the gratitude a dog can give. He is a bright, polite and friendly boy, who is keen to leave his past behind him. His good manners, intelligence and loving spirit make him a perfect candidate for a variety of homes.

Adoption details
We are a community fostercare network, not a shelter, and our dogs and cats are cared for in private homes. Note that we are very careful where we rehome our dogs and cats and we have an intensive process. If you want a quick turnaround we are not the group for you. If you seem like a good match for the dog of your choice we will organise a telephone chat, a meet and greet and a property check. We offer free assistance for six weeks for any issues, a lifetime takeback policy with full refund of the adoption fee, and will always be available to offer advice.
We care for our dogs and cats and we want you to as well. We know that genuine applicants have no trouble with this process and understand that if we refuse you a dog or cat, it is because you are not the best match for that pet.
Our commitment to the dogs and cats in our care is total and we treat each one as if we are passing on a family pet. This may not suit you so we point out that there are equally great dogs and cats available in pounds, shelters and with other rescue groups.
