About Wally Yarbury
TO APPLY FOR ADOPTION PLEASE SEND IN APPLICATION FORM AVAILABLE BELOW:
https://www.victoriandogrescue.org.au/about-vicdrg/adoption-and-foster-application-forms.html/
Wally is a brilliant little guy who is a poster pup for the resilience of dogs. Left in a yard with minimal interaction or activity for most of his life, Wally has taken to foster care like a boss. He loves being part of the household and learning how to dog. Wally is a playful guy, who enjoys the odd zoomie around the house, but is also a master of snooze, sleeps well through the night and travels calmly in the car. Out and about, Wally has taken beautifully to walking on lead, is polite with passing dogs and happy when he sees small people. He has not yet mastered the art of recall, so on lead walks and play in secure spaces is what he needs. Wally’s carers have been showing him the world and he is typically very well behaved when stopping with friends or at the local café.
Due to his past circumstances, Wally can be a little aloof with his people, but he is friendly and affectionate when he gets comfortable, and clearly wants to love and be loved in return. Wally came into care with no education or house training. He is now house trained but will need some guidance when learning his new house rules. Wally enjoys the company of other dogs and has been in care with multiple other dogs. Due to his lack of experience, Wally has not learned dog etiquette and can get into scraps if other dogs are reactive with him in the home (he is very polite when out and about). Given his happy spirit, his ability to learn and his need to build confidence after a lifetime of neglect, Wally is a great candidate for developing new skills and a bond with his people through rewards-based training. Due to his past, Wally can be anxious when corrected or excluded, so he needs to be with people who build him up using praise and reward to learn boundaries and help him understand what is expected. Helping Wally grow will be as rewarding for his new people as it is for him as he is a quick study, full of gratitude and love.
In foster care, Wally has been okay when left by his carers during the day and is not destructive in the house. He can be worried about being locked outside and appreciates company when in the yard. This is understandable, given his history of being left alone. Wally came into care underweight and with some discomfort in his mouth. He is now a happier and healthier dog.
Wally is lovely guy and deserves all the good things in life. He is looking for a family who will provide him with patient guidance and new experiences and spend time with him as he learns how to dog. While he could potentially live with other dogs in the future, we think Wally might do best as a solo dog at home for now, so he can learn how to socialise with other dogs and read their cues in controlled settings. Wally will do better in a home where people are around more often than not, although he will be okay on his own while his people are out for work or play. In his new home, Wally absolutely must be welcomed inside day and night. Wally will reward his new people with all the gratitude a dog can give. He is a bright, polite and friendly boy, who is keen to leave his past behind him. His good manners, intelligence and loving spirit make him a perfect candidate for a variety of homes. If there is a Wally-shaped hole in your life, please submit an adoption application now.
Please note: our dogs are not available for interstate adoption. We also do not adopt to people under the age of 25 years.

All our dogs are desexed, C5 vaccinated with intranasal, microchipped, wormed, and flea treated. All necessary vetwork such as dentals, surgery, eye treatment are also carried out. We are no longer heartworm testing as we have not had one positive test since we began in 2006. If a dog comes to us on heartworm treatment this is continued.

Adoption details
We are a community fostercare network, not a shelter, and our dogs and cats are cared for in private homes. Note that we are very careful where we rehome our dogs and cats and we have an intensive process. If you want a quick turnaround we are not the group for you. If you seem like a good match for the dog of your choice we will organise a telephone chat, a meet and greet and a property check. We offer free assistance for six weeks for any issues, a lifetime takeback policy with full refund of the adoption fee, and will always be available to offer advice.
We care for our dogs and cats and we want you to as well. We know that genuine applicants have no trouble with this process and understand that if we refuse you a dog or cat, it is because you are not the best match for that pet.
Our commitment to the dogs and cats in our care is total and we treat each one as if we are passing on a family pet. This may not suit you so we point out that there are equally great dogs and cats available in pounds, shelters and with other rescue groups.
