About Mannie Boy
PLEASE NOTE THAT UNFORTUNATELY WE ARE UNABLE TO FLY OUR ANIMALS EITHER WITHIN WA OR INTERSTATE
NAME: Mannie Boy
BEFORE RESCUE: Came to SAFE Esperance from the pound.
BREED: Mastiff X
BREED TRAITS: Mastiffs are good-natured, affectionate, dignified, and protective - being bred as a guardian to family. He will mature into a calm and quiet dog who loves being with his people. He can be aloof to strangers and wary of unknown dogs so early socialisation with people and dogs is essential. Mastiffs can be mouthy so obedience training and clear boundaries are a must. Mastiffs do not like being alone and are definitely inside dogs that want to be lap dogs if given a chance. If not exercised and lonely they will pine and be destructive. They are not for novice owners.
***************************************************************
ASSETS: He’s easy-going, affectionate, devoted, eager to please, clever, friendly, obedient, active and playful! Mannie Boy has a beautiful nature and has settled well into foster care.
FAVOURITE THINGS: Mannie Boy enjoys being near his people and loves to play with his ball on a rope and soccer balls – although he’s a bit rough and will break them! He has a very active mind and needs to be kept busy. He loves belly rubs and cuddles too!
ENDEARING FEATURES: He has a loyal and loving nature and just loves to be loved.
OTHER ANIMALS: He gets on well with other dogs but can be a bit in their face initially as he gets very excited so he needs an owner who will teach him some manners. He’s currently being fostered on a property with livestock (cattle and calves) and is fine around them.
GENERAL INFO: Mannie Boy is a little excitable initially on his lead but then walks well after being pulled into line a couple of times. He is housetrained and rarely barks. He gets curious and wary when he hears loud noises. He knows a few commands already and is a clever cookie so training should be a breeze with him. He travels well in the car and enjoys getting out and seeing new things. If he is left for long periods or is shut away from you he will stress – he just wants to be with his person.
ESSENTIALS for Mannie Boy:
** An active, loving home with someone who can be there with him for most of the day on a permanent basis or can take him with them when they leave the house.
** An owner who will dedicate time to training him and take him to classes where he can socialize and learn new things in a safe environment.
** He’s an active boy so will need good daily exercise, playtime and mental activity. An active home that is willing to involve him in daily activities is essential for him.
** Mannie Boy needs a fenced, secure yard with grass and interesting things to sniff and explore.
**Mannie Boy loves to be with his people so he needs to be allowed inside the home when you are there and to sleep inside at night, preferably as close to his people as possible!
** Mannie Boy would best suit a home with older children (10+) who will be able to read his signals and cope with his excitable nature, or an adult only home. He would love another dog with a similar energy level to live and play with - preferable female - or at the least have regular interaction with other dogs in a safe environment.
