About Mickey. Dog & cat friendly! π
Mickey is a handsome sweetheart who loves nothing more than to be cuddled, patted and to spend time with his people <3
He is an incredibly affectionate and gentle companion, purring away in contentment whenever he gets some love. He loves to play with his fluffy wand toy, following you around to keep you company while you go about your business, and snuggling up in a nice spot for a good snooze.
For his people - Mickey is going to be happiest with someone who's home at least part time hours and is a home-body like him. But he's independent, not needy at all.
For his home - He would do best in a quiet home but will adapt to almost any environment, as long as he can be with his people and involved in family activities.
For his fur-friends - He regularly spends time with the dog at our cat shelter and clearly wants to approach for head-bonks but is respectful when the dog shows he isn't keen on that much closeness. Mickey has also shown some lovely nose kisses with other respectful cats so we're sure with right personalities he will be fine with other animals.
Health wise - He has a slight limp on his front leg which our vet has diagnosed as arthritis. We have been managing this with Gabapentin and Osteo Support tablets (which we can give his adopter) and as a result Mickey is still able to enjoy life to the fullest - jumping to different levels and playing very comfortably.
This amazing boy is such an easy cat! All he needs is someone who will love him unconditionally - are you that special someone?

Mickey was found to be living on the street by himself and was being fed by a caring community member, we believe his person may have died or been taken into care and he was left behind. For this reason we do not want him returning to an outside life at all, he needs to be an indoor cat, well cared for and given the love he lost when his person disappeared and he had to fend for himself on the street.
* A small, high fenced courtyard would be ok for Mikey to have short supervised time outside, say if his person is having a cup of tea in the sun outside, but we would not suggest leaving him out there. Cats can learn routine very well - if having a cuppa and letting him wander for 10 minutes then he is picked up and taken inside he will soon learn this routine and return inside himself at the right time, however this should ONLY be done in a quiet home his outside time person is in control and ensuring his safety at all times.

ABOUT OUR ORGANISATION
Sunny Days runs Victoria's only specialised stray cat rehab facility. On a rural property in Avalon, Vic, our rehab centre operates 24 hours a day, 7 days a week and is in constant demand due to the sheer number of cats born wild and dogs no longer wanted.
Despite this demand, we have no source of ongoing funding. Unlike public pounds which enter into contracts with local councils to be the facility responsible for housing lost animals; reuniting them with owners; and sourcing new homes for those unwanted, volunteer-run pounds like ours do not have the option to partner with a government organisation and have the running of the shelter funded - we are left to fund our work through ours, and the community's donations.
You can help us continue saving lives by clicking the pink DONATE button on this page, or please see further options below. β‘ Thankyou! β‘
π OUR WORK WITH CATS:
We take in full cat colonies, pregnant and nursing mothers, ophan kittens, FIV positive cats, and sick or injured cats. Cats are humanely trapped after being identified as un-owned; we don't take in domesticated cats and have extensive processes to ensure cats trapped are true strays as opposed to owned. We don't give cats deadlines to be socialised by or they'll be euthanised, we provide sanctuary for them for as long as they need.
π OUR WORK WITH DOGS:
We take in dogs from community surrenders, owned arranged euthanasia's which vets have intervened on, and greyhounds retired from or not suitable for racing. Most of our dogs are with us for an extended period of time to ensure we know them really well before putting them up for adoption, and have been assessed by professional dog trainers if not worked with extensively. We provide full discretion with adopters about dogs' health and behaviour and unlimited, 24 hour support to integrate adopted dogs into new homes, families and lifestyles.
π HOW YOU CAN HELP
We receive adoption fees, however our animals are adopted out less frequently than happens at other shelters and rescue organisations as our animals are with us for extended periods of rehabilitation. We rely on donations to keep our animals fed, parasite treated, vaccinated regularly and treated for illness or injury. You can donate by clicking the pink DONATE button on this page, or via the alternate options below. Thankyou for your suppawt β‘
