Why chocolates aren’t good for your pets
Those gorgeous brown blocks might put you on cloud nine, but your pet’s world could possibly be filled with an unfavourable kind of brown if they consume even the smallest amount.
Chocolates contain a compound called Theobromine, which can be toxic to pets and lead to symptoms including restlessness, excitement, hyperactivity, nervousness, vomiting and diarrhoea.
Although it’s mostly dogs that are at risk from chocolate poisoning, it can sometimes be harmful to other pets as well, depending on the amount ingested and the size or age of your pet.
If your furry has been naughty and managed to sneak in a bite but isn't showing any immediate symptoms, this handy Chocolate Toxicity Calculator* can tell you whether an emergency vet visit is required. Or you can contact the Animal Poisons Helpline.

If your dog or other animal has ingested chocolate (even a small amount), you should contact your vet as soon as possible for advice. Chocolate poisoning can usually be treated successfully, but it's important to seek veterinary attention quickly to give your pet the best possible chance of recovery.
