Using creativity to help homeless pets ✨
Did you know there are lots of ways you can help homeless pets in need, other than donating money or goods?
Sometimes it just takes some extra creativity and inspiration 💚
We were overjoyed to hear from 12-year-old dog lover Macy recently, who reached out to share her and her friend Sadie’s incredible work designing, printing and sharing posters of adoptable senior pets in their community!
Friends and dog lovers Sadie and Macy 💚
Inspired by their own special furry friends, as well as dogs Macy and her family have fostered through PetRescue member group Dogs4Jobs, the pair spent hours creating pet posters that included QR codes linking to the PetRescue profiles of senior dogs looking for love. They then reached out to some awesome local businesses in their area who let them display the posters for potential adopters to see.

We spoke to Macy about the pair’s work to find homes for seniors, and we hope it inspires young pet lovers everywhere to get creative to help find loving families for homeless pets!

What gave you the idea to create posters for adoptable pets to share in your community?
My friend Sadie and I, wanted to help senior dogs get adopted. We both have a dog at home and we just love them so much. My 15-year-old Kelpie called Scout passed away in 2023 and it made me realise how special older dogs are.
So Sadie and I were at my house one day and we came with an idea to make some posters with QR codes on them to help the older dogs get adopted. Then people might see the poster as they walked past and they could use the QR code to read more about the dog. Often puppies are the ones that people adopt but older dogs are so lovely, they are so appreciative that they have a second chance.

Could you tell us a little more about you and your family's experience fostering dogs through Dogs4Jobs?
My family started fostering with Dogs4Jobs about a year ago. We've cared for nine dogs so far, ranging from four months to three years old, all Kelpies or crossed with Kelpie. We started because we love having dogs in our house, and we have a lot of love to give.
We have our own dog, Dusty, who is a rescue Kelpie cross and he is about four years old. He is supposed to be the mentor dog but sometimes he is a scaredy cat and hides when the foster dogs come into the house and other times he teaches the foster dogs how to play tug of war which is great. Dogs4Jobs is such a good organisation and they treat the dogs so well. My friend Sadie always comes over to my house to meet the new foster dog and helps train them.

Why is helping senior dogs find homes so important to you?
We loved Scout and he was an absolute sweet heart, and every time we see a senior dog we go straight over to pat them. I just want senior dogs to have a happy life because they deserve it, and we can't always adopt them so we want to help them get good homes.
