At a time when so many rescue groups are struggling to support the pets in their care because of devastating bushfires across Australia, it’s inspiring to see our member rescue groups look out for each other.
We recently facilitated the evacuation of four cats to Melbourne from a rescue group in rural NSW. Our member rescue group, Lyn’s Cats, were forced to evacuate with their cats twice before and wanted to find a more stable home for their felines.
When they reached out for help, our team spent days trying to figure out how to safely get the cats out. Due to the bushfires, rescue organisations were increasingly getting swarmed with homeless pets and lacked the resources to accommodate more. However, our amazing rescue member, Melbourne-based Maneki Neko Cat Rescue came through and agreed to take in four cats despite being at capacity!
With the help of our incredible partner, Jetpets, who generously waive the cost of flights and crates, the adorable rescue cats safely landed in Melbourne, ready to find new homes.
Maneki Neko helped these cats get set up in foster homes and listed them for adoption on PetRescue. We’re extremely thankful to Maneki Neko for always leading the way with their progressive approach to rescue and setting a shining example for the rescue community!
