Rescue dog and TV star Bruce is SUCH a good boy!
Meet rescue dog Bruce. He’s one half of the doggie talent in the latest PEDIGREE® TV ad, and we reckon he's the star of the show!
Bruce started life as an unwanted pup, but this very clever and very good boy found love, along with a life of adventure and stardom, with his wonderful new family. We spoke to the proudest of dog mums - owner and vet nurse Meg Walker - about Bruce’s rise to fame.
“Bruce came into the vet clinic at six weeks of age. When I first saw him, I noticed that his tongue was too big for his mouth, and kept poking out the end. He also had a funny eye, but that just added to his cuteness in my opinion!” said Meg.
“He was the last remaining pup of an accidental litter. No one was interested in him. So I offered to take him in and help find him a home. I picked him up that night after work, and fell in love with his personality. So I gave him his forever home! He never left my side after that, and was SO eager to learn and to please with his training!” she said.
Then one day, a friend mentioned to Meg that animal talent agency Paws On Film (of Red Dog and Oddball fame) were looking for kelpie mix dogs for an upcoming ad.
Whilst Bruce’s exact parentage was a bit of a mystery, Meg had previously done a DNA test on Bruce to see what his breed ancestry was. The results came back as a kelpie, border collie and Australian cattle dog mix.
“So I sent an application in, and after a couple of auditions he was cast. Though Bruce has always been star quality in my opinion,” Meg laughed.
Meg said Bruce was so excited by the amount of people and other dogs on set of the PEDIGREE® TV ad, but a good play with the other canine talent tired him out and he was then ready to focus on the job.
When he’s not filming TV commercials, Bruce helps out with promotional work at Meg’s vet clinic, the Animal Clinic Maffra, and helps her run puppy preschool classes too.
“I think he just enjoys showing the puppies the tricks he can do,” said Meg.
So has all this fame gone to his furry head? No - Bruce is still a down to earth doggo who loves camping, swimming in lakes, and boy does he REALLY love hot dogs!
An all-round Mr Nice Dog, Bruce is also a seasoned foster parent.
“Bruce is so understanding and gentle with the foster patients I bring home,” said Meg. “He knows when to be gentle if they are sick, or when they are on the mend and need a good play!”
Oh Bruce, you’re SUCH a good boy!
