Queensland members - are you rescuing greyhounds?
The Queensland Racing Integrity Commission is seeking information on retired greyhounds.
The Commission monitors the life cycle of racing greyhounds, including the retirement of racing greyhounds. It is seeking information to track greyhound retirements, so that outcomes after racing can be accurately monitored.
Racing greyhound owners should notify the Commission via an official GA106 form when any greyhound retires from racing, however, there may be instances where this does not occur.
The Commission is requesting that rescue organisations email the Commission the microchip details of retired greyhounds coming into rescue care, so they can accurately track and monitor outcomes for ex-racing greyhounds.
Microchip details can be forwarded to the Commission via email to welfare@gric.qld.gov.au or by phoning 1300 087 021. Personal details are not required. The microchip number is the only requirement to match each greyhound to its existing records.
If your organisation has any queries, please contact Dr Ann-Marie Boyd, Animal Welfare Manager on (07) 3174 0593 or via email at welfare@gric.qld.gov.au.
