Pet Science: Does your dog know when you're sad?
Owning a dog (as well as fostering) means forging an emotional connection that works both ways. It goes without saying that dogs can read our emotions and console us when we're sad, but how can this behaviour be explained in a psychological sense?
A new study out of the University of Otago in New Zealand goes some way to unearthing how this works. It's a really interesting piece of research that tells us a lot about how our canine friends integrate into family life and become an extension of our kids or partners.
You can read all about this study over at Do You Believe in Dog? where the researcher behind the work, Min Hooi Yong, has guest written a post on the findings. You can also read the full study here.
