Is Home2Home right for me and my pet?
Our program empowers guardians to have an active role in rehoming their beloved pet. Home2Home can be a wonderful alternative to traditional pathways, allowing your pet to remain at home during the rehoming process. Below are some helpful points to consider when deciding if Home2Home is a suitable fit for you, your pet and your situation.
How much time should I allow to facilitate the rehoming process?
While it only takes a few days for our team to process your application and create your pets adoption profile we cannot guarantee a specific timeframe for your pet to be adopted. Many factors influence how quickly a pet will receive adoption enquiries. Some pets find a wonderful new home within a matter of days, while others will take several months to match with a suitable adopter.
We recommend allowing a minimum of eight weeks to facilitate rehoming through Home2Home. If this would be a challenge for you, then you can explore alternative rehoming assistance here.
What if my pet is older, has a health condition, or requires special care?
The good news is, that none of these factors is a barrier to choosing Home2Home for your pet. As long as you are able to supply our team with an up-to-date patient history from your vet (including a check-up completed within the last 6 months) that shows your pet’s health is stable, and that any conditions are well-managed with a treatment plan in place, we can communicate this transparently with potential adopters. This will ensure that your chosen adopter is not only a match for your pet’s personality, but also a good match for their health care needs.
If your pet has a health condition where treatment has been recommended by your vet, or is in the process of having a health condition treated and management of the condition is currently unstable, we require that this is fully addressed by your veterinary team prior to proceeding with your Home2Home application.
What if my pet has behavioural challenges?
All pets are individuals. Creating a great adoption match relies on having a great understanding of your pet’s personality and behaviour, and then matching them to an adopter whose lifestyle, home and expectations align with this. This article is a great resource to help you match your pet with a fantastic adopter.
We understand that some pet behaviour challenges can be complicated or confusing. If you feel this way, rest assured you’re not alone. Great help is available, and accessing support prior to rehoming is the best way to ensure your beloved pet will have a smooth and successful adoption journey.
Your closest Cat Friendly Clinic or specialist cat vet clinic is a great place to start seeking feline behavioural support. The same guidelines apply when choosing a cat trainer to provide practical help, as choosing a dog trainer. Cat trainers should be happy to discuss their qualifications, continuing education and experience with you, and to answer any questions you may have about their approach. While this article is focused on dogs, you might find it helpful as a first step.
How do I apply?
To make sure the most suitable adoption enquiries come through to you we will ask you to provide information that enables us to build a thorough understanding of your cat’s care needs and individual personality. Once you have everything gathered and are ready to begin, the Home2Home application process is as easy as a few mouse clicks!
Once we have received your complete application (including full veterinary history, personality information, photos and videos) our team will review everything to make sure Home2Home is a good fit for you and your pet. If your pet is offered a place in our Home2Home program we will be in touch with a link to their adoption profile for you to review.
If your application shows that additional veterinary or behavioural work is needed to meet our program requirements we will be in touch to offer you a place in Home2Home pending completion of these outstanding treatments. A partial refund will then be available should you not wish to proceed. If we don't feel that your pet is a good fit for the Home2Home program, we will refund your program fee payment in full.
