Finding the sweetest little Olive 🫒
Meet Bronte.
Bronte was in the heartbreaking position of grieving her family dog of sixteen years when she decided to adopt a new best friend. She says about this time in her life;
"You're in your final year of your 20s, you've moved back in with your parents to save, and you've spent the last year grieving the loss of your childhood dog of 16 years. There's only one cure: it's time to find your new bestie.”
Have you had to say goodbye to a beloved pet? The PetRescue team extends our condolences and we hope this article can bring you some comfort during this time.
Once you’ve made the huge (and exciting!) decision to welcome a new pet into your home, it can be tempting to start firing off enquiries for pets to try and speed things up. However, it may take some time to meet your new furry family member. Rescue groups, which are often volunteer-run and very busy with their life-saving work, can receive high volumes of applications for pets in their care. It’s im-paw-tant to them that the pets in their care are well matched with their new human and their lifestyle and home! So, be prepared to be a little patient, and perhaps use this time to start preparing with PetRescue’s adoption assistance and pet guardian resources.
Bronte was patient in her search for her new best friend and after a little while, opened up her search after only looking for small dogs previously. She says about her adoption journey:
“I started looking on PetRescue with the motto ‘the right dog will be ready when I am’. After a couple of months of looking and a few enquiries about other pups, I stumbled across 'Punkin' [in the care of Ozzie Hearts 4 Paws]. I had only been looking at the small [dog] category as eventually we will be in an apartment, but something that day told me to click on medium and there she was. I instantly sent her profile through to my mum and by the end of the day, it was all organised for us to go and meet her at her foster home that weekend.”

“I had a fantastic experience with the PetRescue website. It was really easy to navigate and search within parameters for the type of pet I was looking for. I was head over heels when I first saw Olive (original name Punkin) and her profile had plenty of informative information so I knew we would be compatible” says Bronte.
As soon as Bronte locked eyes with Olive at the meet and greet, it was love at first sight!
“Punkin was a timid four-month-old little girl, her big brown eyes filled with cautious love and I was instantly head over heels. I said I'd sleep on it as I didn't want to rush such a big decision. One week later I was back with a carload of dog supplies and ready to bring my Olive home. Sarah, her foster mum from Ozzie Hearts 4 Paws, was so helpful and there for any questions or queries I had in those early months. Olive just turned 1 and we still check in with Sarah monthly with updates on what she's been up to.”
You've adopted a dog! Here's what to expect while they settle in.
Olive and Bronte have now spent eight fun-filled months together, and Olive has brightened up her and her family’s lives ✨
“I love to spend time with friends, but also cherish my alone time, and having a dog is like the perfect mix of both at once! Olive is a bit of a nervous girl, but also very brave - she’s learnt to love stand-up paddle boarding and sailing, although at her core she is a lazy cuddle bug who will happily spend the whole day in bed or snoozing in the sun. Our favourite thing to do together is off-lead walks at our local beachside spot, with her favourite coffee shop en route. The strangest thing about Olive is that she doesn’t ever bark, except for at birds which she loves to chase.
As many adopters probably do, I feel like I've hit the jackpot. All Olive wants to do is cuddle, nap, sun bake and play on the beach (same) and we are just so compatible. She has brought so much joy to myself, but also my parents, brother and sister-in-law who all argue over who gets to look after her when I'm at work or have plans she can't come to. If I was to describe Olive in three words they would be: gentle, goofy and gorgeous."
