Find pets needing foster care near you

If you’re about to go into hospital or a care facility for treatment, or have experienced a temporary change in circumstances, there are a few options that may help you and your pet through this difficult time.
Ask family members and friends first
People your pet already knows can be a good place to start. A trusted friend or family member may be able to care for your pet temporarily while you get back on your feet.
Contact the people you got your pet from
If your pet came from a rescue organisation, breeder or another person, contact them and explain what’s happening. They may be able to help directly or know of suitable local options.
Rescue organisations generally use their foster networks for pets already coming into their care, so they may not have space for privately owned pets. It can still be worth asking whether they know of another local pathway.
If you’re experiencing a crisis
PetRescue’s Tailored Support Pathway can help you explore options that may be available for you and your pet. PetRescue does not operate a general temporary foster network and cannot guarantee a placement.
Some specialist services may also be able to help in particular circumstances. Eligibility, capacity and referral requirements vary, so check the service directly before relying on it.
Consider professional boarding or pet sitting
If it’s financially possible, local boarding facilities or professional pet sitters may be another short-term option. Ask about availability, costs and what your pet will need before booking.
