Cats Cats Cats Program
Of the 100,000* healthy and rehomable pets killed each year, it’s estimated that 70,000 (70%) of these are cats. To ensure a future where every pet is safe, respected and loved, we need to start with cats. This will have the biggest impact on saving lives.
In most Australian shelters and council facilities, cats have substantially poorer outcomes than dogs. On average, 4x more cats are being killed than dogs and as high as 85-98% for urban stray cats.
To make a significant change and ensure all domestic cats are respected, we leverage PetRescue’s connections and reach to guarantee the safety of cats in their homes; no matter where that home is. We do this by:
-
Reducing the stigma and promoting a positive view of cats, especially urban stray cats.
-
Raising awareness about the benefits of cat guardianship, highlighting the special bond between humans and their cats.
-
Fostering a better understanding of cats and their body language.
-
Supporting community cat programs (and cat guardians) to demonstrate a positive way to manage cat populations.
-
Getting more cats into foster homes and out of stressful shelter environments that are not made for them.

Until every domestic cat is safe, respected and loved.

PetRescue is a proud advocate of this game-changing initiative. Community Cat Programs are key to helping reduce the number of urban stray cat populations with targeted desexing and decreasing unnecessary intake to shelters.

How a collaborative free cat desexing program offered in Victoria saved a council over $440,000, while reducing cat intake by 66%.
Conscious Cattitudes
