~ E L L Y ~
Do you remember Ellys story? It was equally sad and amazing at the same time.
Earlier in the year we received a plea fromLost Pets of South Australia. A cat had been found at a campsite 5 hours out of Perth in the middle of nowhere. A kind soul alerted a local ranger. A call was put out for someone to collect the cat and take it to the nearest vet.
At the vet, the cat was scanned for a microchip. It came up without registration in Western Australia. . The cat was in poor health, her eye was swollen.. and she tested positive for FIV. Not a good start for this poor girl.
A smart human traced her chip back to the microchip company that issued it. It was discovered the chip had been sent to South Australia for use here. That’s when the amazing team at lost pets of SA were able to work their magic.
The cat was adopted out by the RSPCA in Adelaide. This is Elly 🧡.
Lost Pets of SA were able to trace and locate Ellys owners. The story just gets even more remarkable from here.
It was discovered Elly was taken to Perth on a caravanning holiday with her new adopters. Cats aren’t great at doing what they are told.. and Elly found herself lost and alone in a different state in the middle of nowhere for 13 MONTHS.
You would think her being found and reunited with her people would be the end of an incredible story. It didn’t end there!
Unfortunately Ellys owners had moved on. They were unable to take Elly back into their life. Elly was , after all that effort, in the same trouble she found herself in .
That’s where GNR came in! We were asked if we would be part of Ellys continuing journey . After hearing her story we could not say no! Long story not so short- Elly was transported 5 hours across country WA to make her way to the airport to be flown back to SA!
Huge shout out to the lovely WA lady who kept Elly safe and drove Elly across WA for her to complete her journey.
When Elly arrived back in Adelaide
She was driven by the team from Lost Pets of SA straight to our vet . Elly had a full veterinary work up including having her bulging eye removed…she then came to GNR HQ 2 where she has stayed ever since.
From the moment Elly exited her carrier we knew we had someone truly special in our midst. Elly was the most beautiful affectionate soul, sleeping on our heads, touching our faces with her paw.. so much gratitude. She knew she was finally safe. It took Elly months of following us everywhere around the house before she realised she was not going to be left behind /lost again 😿. Elly became our shadow. Our needy yet grateful shadow.
This truly pains us- we fell in love with Elly the moment she arrived to GNR HQ2 . In an ideal world , she would stay at GNR , however there are so many kitties who need us more. If we don’t find homes for our most special rescues, there will be no more room at the inn 🥲.
Elly is currently living in a home with other cats and two very annoying( but cat friendly)dogs.
We are looking for a very special adopter for Elly.
Elly would like to be your best friend and your companion.
Please consider being that person who opens their home and their heart to a cat like Elly. She’s so incredibly important to us here at GNR. 🙏
Elly will require an indoor only home or one with an enclosed secure cat run.
She is up to date with all vet work and is in excellent health.
WE LOVE YOU ELLY BELLY 🧡
