About Martin
Meet marvellous Martin ! Striking, tall and handsome, he’s three and half and is a rare Greyhound in that he can sit!
Martin is loving learning things in his new life as a pet and is eager to please, he lives with another Gumtree Grey foster – Martie and they are in an apartment together, stairs are a breeze. Martin walks out more than most greys and he will need a yard in order to reduce the walks, he is not high energy but he likes a long wee bless him.
He’s doing pretty well meeting other dogs but it’s early days, he’s excited to see them, his ears will prick up and he wants to go say hello, if they bark he barks. Socialisation will need to be continued by his adopters especially with small dogs as they are still a little unknown.
Food is life … he will wolf it down given the chance and he’s tall… so counter surfing is always on the cards. He’s also a cuddle bug, when he’s at home, he loves to be around his humans and loves a snuggle on the couch!
His humans describe him as sweet and loving and think his forever family will be lucky to have him – he’ll reward them every day with smooches and affection.
He has not been an only dog so separation training would have to taught, he would likely choose humans who are home more often than not or most certainly a playmate.
Gangly giraffe is a nickname for Martin.
No cat or small dog applications please.
No children under ten.
No full time workers unless working from home or there is another dog

Adoption details
Dogs are pack animals and Greyhounds, in particular, are very familiar with being surrounded by other dogs in their racing kennel environment. For this reason, when left alone without people or other dogs for company, they can be prone to separation anxiety which can manifest in destructive and/or noisy behaviour. Yes, they may "grow out" of it after a few weeks in their new home, but why put the dog through that stress to ultimately live all day alone, while everyone is at work? As a result we do not rehome dogs into households where they are left on their own for more than 4 hours per day, without either people or another dog for company.
During the COVID crisis, not all of our rescued Greyhounds will have the usual socialisation with other dogs so we may advise to use a muzzle in some situations until the dog is fully socialised.

Following your initial application, we conduct a home check. Our dogs are placed on a two week trial. The adoption fee is paid at time of placement and reimbursed if the trial is unsuccessful.
After the trial period is deemed successful, the adoption process is finalised.
