About Ella
Ella is a 2 year old Mixed Breed, originally said to be an Aussie Cattle Dog when first adopted at 9 weeks. She has grown into a super sweet young lady who her previous owners believe exhibits a lot of kelpie qualities. She is currently weighing in at approx 20kg and presents with many Whippet features and traits. With this in mind, please find an info sheet attached for the Whippet Breed.
This little lady is super smart and loves attention. She has a good alert bark, when strangers approach the house, but rarely barks other than to let you know her water bowl is empty or she needs out for the toilet if the door is closed. She has lived in an indoor/outdoor home and is familiar with a doggy door.
Ella has undergone obedience training and an on-site board and train program. She is crate trained, and is also trained to remain within invisible fencing. She is her happiest when working beside you and enjoys being a part of the routine jobs (taking the bin out, checking the mail box, gardening and working in the shed). She has no problems with storms, fireworks or motors as she has previously enjoyed any opportunities to help in either the kitchen or the garage!
She recalls well and will sit and hold a down and wait. She enjoys exercise time and will happily fetch balls, and play with ropes and toys. She loves swimming in creeks and the beach, and considers a paddle pool a very poor substitute :) Ella has a big appetite for a little lady (quite common in Whippets) and still enjoys 2 meals a day, a daily kibble scatter and the opportunity to free graze.
Ella has proven to be a particularly good mouser, and enjoys scent games (treat scatters, treasure hunts, and scent scrambles). With this in mind - she would NOT be suitable for a home with cats, guinea pigs, or other small pets. She has lived with caged birds.
Ella has grown up with a senior male dog, and has mixed well with new dogs during numerous trips to her local dog park. She may benefit from a home with another young, active male dog, as she proved a little too animated for the senior in her previous placement.
Ella has proven difficult to walk as she is easily distracted by opportunities to play with other dogs, and a halti is recommended for suburban walks. Scent hounds can become overwhelmed by new environments, so a regular walk in familiar territory with a halti would help her to focus and develop good walk skills, or you may find regular exercise sessions in a good sized yard will suffice.
A home with children over the age of 10 is preferred, however Ella tested well in the supervised company of a 4yo. Extended family or visiting children are not considered a problem as it is likely that Ella would handle this alongside good supervision and management.
Ella would be best suited to a home with 6ft colourbond or low-to-no vision fencing as she is very alert, curious and may seek out company if left alone for extended periods. She has not been known to roam, but has visited neighbours without invitation for pooch playdates! The invisible fence system is available, however we would prefer that adequate fencing and availability form part of your application.
Ella's adoption includes her bed, toys, current food, enrichment bowl, collar and lead. Her R2R report details historical information and confirms her current health status and treatment history, training received and any information likely to assist with a smooth transition into your home. She really is looking for her best mate, and offers a loyal bond, lots of smiles and happy go lucky personality.
If you are interested in Ella, please take the time to prepare an application that helps us find her best match. Let us know about your family dynamic, home, fencing, work hours and any previous experience with dogs or these breeds.
