About Belen
Get the tissues ready – Belen is the definition of a dog who desperately needed rescuing. Her previous owner reports that she came from a severely abusive environment that has left its mark on this beautiful girl, both physically and emotionally. We are looking for someone with the patience and skills to continue Belen’s journey and give her a quiet loving home for the rest of her life.
Belen is understandably wary of new people but has been making progress while in foster care. She will bark nervously when someone new comes into the room and then pace around the room. Belen does best if ignored by new people and allowed to approach when she is ready. It took her 1.5 weeks to approach her foster carer for pats when she first came into care so her new owner will need to be prepared to allow this. The more time someone spends just being in the company of her and not applying pressure, the quicker she will come around and trust you. Belen will require an adult only home with minimal visitors as she does get spooked by people behind her, sudden movements and people staring her down or approaching her too quickly.
Once she trusts you this girl shows you her soft heart and soul. Belen is a gentle and sweet girl around 31kg. If her foster carer stops patting her, she lifts her paw up to get them to keep going. Belen greets her foster family with a tail wag when they come home and has a lovely calm demeanour about her. When she feels safe, she shows she knows some basic manners like responding to her name, sit and down. Belen enjoys taking in the view out in the sun and chasing after toys thrown for her – just don’t expect her to bring them back! Lately, she has discovered chasing lizards in the grass is good fun too.
Belen is currently living with another foster dog and has met some other dogs while in our care. She enjoys the company of the other dog and is fine with new dogs around but prefers they don’t bother her. Belen does seem to take cues from the other dog in care, particularly in relation to meeting people. She gets curious when she sees the other dog approach people to get pats and cuddles. We believe she would do well with another stable, calm and friendly dog who could be a relaxed companion and good role model for her.
Belen enjoys going for short walks but can find some things or situations scary. She has learnt to get past these things if given a bit of distance from them. Belen likes to have a good sniff around while on her walk so she will not break any speed records. She walks really well on the lead and likes to just walk behind and follow her foster carer’s lead.
We are looking for an experienced person to give Belen the life she deserves. You will need to have experience with working with nervous/timid dogs and building confidence. Belen will do best in a quiet home in a quieter area. If she is going to a home with another dog it needs to be the right dog (as described above) and they need to be introduced gradually to build trust. Belen has not been tested with other types of animals and she is not suitable to live with children as they are overwhelming for her.
Belen is a true rescue case and if you think you can offer her the home she needs and deserves then please complete a Dog Adoption Enquiry form on the Fetching Dogs website as the next step.

Don't see a breed attached to one of our dogs? That's because we don't breed label dogs of unknown genetic history. We can't guess at breeds but that's okay, because we can tell you about the dog's individual personality, character, and behaviour.
