About Lucky ~ 4 y/o cat (on trial 25/1/21)
Meet Lucky! The story of a cat with an incredible will to live
Lucky is big snuggle bear who loves to be with you and must have at least some part of his body touching yours! As soon as he knows that you’re in the house, he strides over with his big lion paws and settles in on the couch right next to you! We think he is probably part Lion by the size of him and with that gorgeous mane he has going on!
When you look in Lucky’s eyes, they tell the true story of who he is and sadly, what he has been through. They also tell you about his gentle soul and his fighting spirit. The light in his heart shines bright and although he has seen pain and suffering, he is now in a place where he is safe, content and loved.
You see, Lucky was dumped by his previous owner and left to find food and shelter on his own. But because Lucky is a lover and not a fighter, he was constantly getting beaten up by the other resident males in the neighbourhood when trying to find food and shelter. One night, a local resident trapped him. He had blood coming from his head and several abscesses all over his body. He was starved and had missing fur all over his body. He was in bad shape. Well things got worse for him when he contracted cat flu at the pound and was found to be FIV positive.
Lucky was lucky because a very kind DRN carer took him in. He was so sick and weak he could not stand up. He could barely breath from the cat flu and his immune system was struggling to fight it. He couldn’t move, he didn’t eat and didn’t go to the toilet. We braced ourselves for what was to come. But Lucky decided he wanted to live, he decided that life’s a bitch but he wasn't going anywhere without a fight. And fought he did. Every day, he fought for his life. Until, one day he started to eat, one day he started to breath better, one day he started to groom himself and finally, one day he walked. But he needed further operations, his teeth were rotting in his head, his eye needed an operation.
Fast forward several months later and Lucky survived all his operations and his personality started to show. He started playing with toys, he stopped hissing at his carer and started meowing and greeting them at the door. He let them brush him and pat him. He weaved his way into our hearts, slowly, one step at a time.
Today, Lucky is a different cat. Happy, affectionate and playful! He is fastidious with his grooming and using his kitty litter and his fur is starting to grow back nicely.
He is a gentle soul who just wants to be loved in return! He is excited about the next step in his journey. Finding a forever home that is just as awesome as he is!
We are looking for a very special home for this very special cat! This gentle sweetheart would suit a home where he could be loved and doted on every day. He is so gentle, he would do well in most households including a single person, a couple or family with older children who would be gentle back.
Due to his FIV, he must be the only cat in the household (but can be re-homed with another FIV cat) and must be kept strictly indoors only for his lifetime (unless there is a fully enclosed outdoor area). But don’t worry! His big personality and gentle soul will fill your house and you heart with a feeling like no other. His beautiful energy and presence touched our lives and we are sure will touch yours!
If you can give this very special cat, an amazing forever home that he deserves, please apply here https://form.jotform.co/93127959159875. For any questions not covered by this profile, please email catsandkittensdrn@gmail.com
Lucky is located in the Newcastle area. His adoption fee is $150 which includes desexing, microchipping, vaccination and has been treated for worms and fleas.
* We would like to thank all of those beautiful people who sent love, well wishes and donated money to keep Lucky alive and allow his surgeries to be done. We also thank RSPCA who assisted in the above.
Medical notes
After many treatments and surgery, Lucky is a healthy and happy boy
