About Alvin
Alvin is not easily embarrassed. He’s unashamedly himself – no matter how goofy or ridiculous he looks. He is an excellent roacher. He will roach in a variety of unflattering positions, legs sprawled out in all kinds of weird angles. Sometimes he’ll even bury his head under a pillow or blanket for added drama.
Even though he looks completely ridiculous, Alvin’s roaches are heart-warming because you know that he is truly comfortable and happy. It takes a little patience for Alvin to feel truly at peace in new places. But after a short time, Alvin slowly comes out of his shell to reveal an enigmatic and affectionate boy who simply adores people.
In fact, he loves people so much that once he attaches to someone, he finds it hard to let go! Alvin suffers from a bit of separation anxiety, so will do well living with an owner who is home often to keep him company. If he knows humans are home he is pretty content sleeping by himself most of the day. As long as he gets his walks in the morning and evening of course!
When working on his training, Alvin responds best to attention and praise, rather than tasty treats. Training and socialisation will be important to help him adjust to new dogs, particularly small ones, which he gets a bit too excited upon meeting.
Alvin’s foster carers describe him as loving, lazy, smart and gentle. He will be an excellent companion dog for life.

Adoption details
Dogs are pack animals and Greyhounds, in particular, are very familiar with being surrounded by other dogs in their racing kennel environment. For this reason, when left alone without people or other dogs for company, they can be prone to separation anxiety which can manifest in destructive and/or noisy behaviour. Yes, they may "grow out" of it after a few weeks in their new home, but why put the dog through that stress to ultimately live all day alone, while everyone is at work? As a result we do not rehome dogs into households where they are left on their own for more than 4 hours per day, without either people or another dog for company.
During the COVID crisis, not all of our rescued Greyhounds will have the usual socialisation with other dogs so we may advise to use a muzzle in some situations until the dog is fully socialised.
