About Sparkey ~ 2yr Old Kelpie X (Trial 20/01/21)
Meet Sparkey - she is a sweet and shiny 2yo border collie x kelpie.
Due to a change in circumstances, Sparkey finds herself looking for a loving, quiet but physically active family who love to walk or run.....and give her cuddles!
She has always lived outside (with 2 or 3 other dogs) but is very well behaved inside the home and would love to be invited inside to sleep and be included as part of the family. Owners working from home or part-time would be ideal. She does not cope well with long hours by herself.
Sparkey can get protective of her family, being a loyal girl, she will need some assistance in learning how to best meet new people in her new home. Her new family will need experience and patience as she learns how to be more social. She can be very excitable, so care around small children is needed. She is definitely best suited to a family with dog savvy children over 12 years old. She would need a medium/large grassy yard with high fences and secure gates. She is very good in the car, excited to go anywhere with you and sits calmly while travelling.
Sparkey is carrying extra weight and is keen to get walking as much as possible. She has shown great improvement walking on a lead, after discovering a front leading harness works wonders for her. She is very smart and keen to learn. Sit, down and stay are basic commands at this stage. So far, she is not too interested in fetching balls or sticks. She would be happiest as an only dog with your undivided attention. She can be a little offended by other dogs and cats, so again a family with patience and experience on how to teach her to greet others in an appropriate way would be the best fit. No food allergies but strict portion control is needed to get her weight down.
Sparkey is looking for a home with someone who understands her needs. She would not suit a family with young children or lots of visitors/entertaining. She needs a family who will commit to her ongoing training needs, daily running or a fast walking pace from owners confident with a strong dog. At this stage she would not be suitable to take to dog parks.
Please be aware that border collies are shedding dogs and need regular brushing / grooming for their comfort and good health. Allergies to dogs, or dog hair would not suit Sparkey.
