About Matt
Matt is affectionate and gentle.
He came into care with the famous "Dog Lady of Yuendumu" because his owners were very concerned that he was being attacked by other dogs in their extended household.
When he arrived in care in Sydney he was so timid he hid in the garden for two days but he has blossomed.
Matt is starting to walk on a lead and learn that going in the car means fun.
He responds well to positive reinforcement, affection, and food.
He cautiously meets new people and then loves attention.
Matt will need a patient and quiet home who will let him adjust and learn at his own pace. Taking him for quiet walks in his immediate neighborhood rather than to dog parks or busy cafes
His new home must realise that he will need a lot of time to adjust to all the very new sights and sounds of suburbia and the city.
Even though Matt was living in a very busy extended family a quiet home with few comings and goings may suit him best.
Matt has never been alone before so will need to be eased into long hours alone. He does not exhibit any signs of separation anxiety so preventing this development is very important.
Matt is fine with the resident dog in foster care but a home as an only dog or with cats would be an easier fit.
If you live in an apartment it must include a private courtyard or balcony where Matt can learn to toilet while becoming more confident on lead and toileting when out.
He is in care with 4 foster cats whose food is his main interest.
Matt is approx. 18mths old and on the smaller side of medium. We have no idea of his breed which applies to all the dogs we rehome.
Matt flew from Alice Springs to Sydney and is in foster care in Kingsford near the Uni of NSW
He is desexed, Vaccinated and parasite treated.
Adoption details
WE CAN ONLY RESPOND TO ENQUIRES WITH BRIEF TO THE POINT ANSWERS TO ALL THE QUESTIONS BELOW.
Have you had a dog before is so, when, size, and age? (not if you have looked after someone else's dog)
Have both the applicant and their partner, extended family, housemates, parents discussed having a dog, and are they "on the same page"?
Most dogs, puppies, and young cannot be left alone for long hrs e.g more than 4hrs at a time. How will you deal with this issue?
If you want a puppy have you seriously considered the work involved i.e. toilet training, chewing, mouthing - those sharp teeth - jumping up, going to puppy classes?
Have you considered coping with all these issues when you have children (how old are your children?)?
A dog is not just for the children. The parents/caregivers must want the puppy and realise the constant supervision and boundaries needed.
Have you considered that a dog or a puppy cannot immediately be taken to a dog park or cafe and need to slowly understand all the new sights, sounds, people, dogs etc of their new environment?
Are you prepared to seek additional one on one training for you and your dog, if necessary?
Have you considered where the dog will sleep at night?
Have you considered any veterinary costs?
Have you considered how to cope with behavior issues should they arise?
If you rent have you obtained written approval for a dog?
If you own an apartment have you obtained written approval from the body corporate?
Have you puppy-proofed your home and bought all the things you feel you will need?
Have you considered that we never know the breed or eventual size of a puppy?
If you are offered a meet and greet and it is felt by all that the dog or pup is a good fit for your family, we expect you to be ready to take the dog home/adopt at the time.
We cannot hold dogs as space in foster care is needed for other dogs.
Thank you
