About Lelo
PLEASE NOTE THAT UNFORTUNATELY WE ARE UNABLE TO FLY OUR ANIMALS EITHER WITHIN WA OR INTERSTATE
NAME: Lelo
BEFORE SAFE ESPERANCE: Came to us as an owner surrender.
BREED: Jack Russell x Chihuahua
General breed traits:
Jack Russell: terriers are generally lively, independent and clever. They are trainable but have a mind of their own and if bored can exhibit destructive behaviours such as digging and chewing. Terriers are devoted to their people, affectionate and love being with them so cannot be left for long periods.
Chihuahua: They love to be with their people and are definitely companion dogs that do not like to be left alone. They are sensitive, but are dogs, and can be problematic if overindulged. They love their family but can be aloof or wary of strangers and other dogs so early socialisation is very important. Chihuahuas cannot tolerate cold or hot weather so a warm coat in the winter and care re overheating in the summer is needed - they are not outside dogs. They are bright and willful but will learn if you make it fun and although small, they have big personalities that can get them into trouble. Quick learners, they can compete in agility and obedience trials so don't dismiss a Chihuahua just because it is cute!
ASSETS: Easy going, affectionate, eager to please, friendly, laidback, active, sweet and playful! She has a loving, sweet nature.
FAVOURITE THINGS: Lelo loves to play with other friendly dogs. She also loves to play tug of war with her rope toys.
OTHER ANIMALS: She loves other dogs and would love a home with another dog friend to share with. She has shown an interest in the cats in her foster home and wants to play, so she could live with a dog-savvy cat in her new home with gentle introduction and strict supervision.
GENERAL INFO: Lelo is a lovable delight. She walks quietly on the lead and is housetrained. She rarely barks but will cry when left alone outside - she needs to be with her human. She has a fairly high energy level and will do zoomies twice a day. She is working on learning her commands and will need some training in this area. She loves to run and play but also loves to snuggle with her people. With commitment and ongoing gentle training she will fulfill her potential and be a wonderful companion. To give her the confidence she needs, puppy school or structured training are a must for her. Lelo has shown a tendency to be car sick on longer journeys, this may resolve over time but, if not, may require medication.
HOME ESSENTIALS:
* Stability: A quiet home where someone is home for most of the day on a permanent basis (not just through Covid 19) or can take her when they go out. Lelo is initially anxious when left alone and her new owner must be prepared to work on this. Another similar sized dog in the house would be great - she is initially wary of larger dogs and takes time to accept them.
* Time: Lelo needs an owner who will put in the time to train and socialize her with new people (as she can be timid when meeting new humans) as well as dogs. Structured classes where she can learn, socialise and have safe exposure are a must and 2 walks a day are essential to keep her happy.
* Space: Lelo needs a yard to run around in to burn off her playful energy, with some grass and interesting things for her to sniff.
* Love: Lelo needs to be allowed to be inside or out as she chooses, and to be included as part of the family. Due to her shaky start we will only rehome her with children who are 10+.
If Lelo sounds like the perfect girl for you, please send an enquiry and we'll be in touch soon.
